According to cricinfo Scotland batted first and were 142-8 at the end of their 50 overs. The Irish bowlers conceded 60 extras which was mainly made up of a ridiculous 54 wides.
Ireland are currently 28-0 in the 7th over.
No news of the Bermuda v Netherlands game so far but South Africa scored 298-7 against Papua New Guinea who are 9-2 in reply.

60 extras!!!! thats a lot..infact there are so many extras in women cricket such that if you manage to bat thru your 50 overs you will be able to get a descent score, so the trick is to hang in there and make sure you bat thru your innings and you will be competative

Looks like an easy win for Ireland, they are currently 106-1 after 17 overs.
Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea are 25-8 against South Africa only needing another 274 to win

Ireland completed an easy 9 wicket win and Papua New Guinea were all out for 28 to South Africa.
No news of the Bermuda reply as yet, but Netherlands finished on 281-8 with a quite amazing 94 extras including 81 wides

Zim and Ireland tied on points, Ireland ahead on NRR. Can't see Scotland beating Pakistan, so winner of Ireland v Zim should have a place in the semis. I believe Ireland have Test status in the women's game, though, so I wouldn't count on it.

Even if they don't qualify, beating Scotland was a big achievement I think.
The number of extras is astounding.... are the bowlers just missing the pitch completely? Or are the wicket keepers so bad each ball rolls past them for 4?

Africa zone qualifiers were the same. Most of these sides are in only their first or second competitive tournament - they simply haven't been playing long enough to have learnt any real control of the ball. CricInfo report on the Bermuda drubbing did speak of them missing the pitch entirely....brmtaylor.com admin wrote:The number of extras is astounding.... are the bowlers just missing the pitch completely? At the Africa qualifiers, it was a question of the wides being as strict as for a regular ODI, and the most of the girls couldn't help slipping one down leg quite regularly.maehara wrote:Africa zone qualifiers were the same. Zimbabwe beat Bermuda - so they'll meet Scotland (again!) in the 5th/6th place playoff.
