Bit concerning that 6 of those guys in that side would be in my best XI .....
Is Nathan Waller in line for a ODI cap? Looks like the selectors may be looking past Chamu, Chigs and Jongwe so maybe Nathan Waller is their man ?
His stats aren't very impressive though .....

Re: Series Thread: Zim A vs Afg A
Most of these guys never played a game for Afghanistan national team. These guys are selected from the group who's done well in domestic circuit.brmtaylor.com admin wrote:This is very embarrassing for us.List A debuts - Abdullah Adil, Imran Janat, Khaibar Omar, Rahman Gul, Shahidullah, Waheedullah Shafaq, Younas Ahmadzai and Ziaurrahman Akbar (Afghanistan A)
Our team has Test players and ODI players, and among the handful that aren't there's Burl and N Waller who should be able to cash in against Afghanistan A.
We can kiss goodbye any hope of playing the next World Cup if a reasonably strong A team can't limp over the line against a bunch of debutants from Afghanistan. Ugh.
There currently 25-26 players training in Dubai for ODI's against Zimbabwe.
I am very surprised they won the first game.

Afghanistan is giving lot of importance to its 5 team domestic cricket competitions, that can be seen by their results, whereas domestic cricket in Zimbabwe has become a joke, with protests, strikes & politics, lack of cricket has made them jokers.
ZC announced bumper domestic season and now they are busy in reducing matches

Let's not forget that Afghanistan are still in the middle of a crippling civil war. Maybe we need Afghan administrators and an Afghan fast bowling coach. Maybe they have depth because if you play cricket you don't need to go to the front line. If we get our guys into Taliban issue suicide vests and they don't bowl over 140..kaboom!

We're getting condolence, and keep your chin up messages from Afghan supporters on FB as well. I take that as a firm sign that our cricket is f*%ed.

Basically, we seem to invite Afg when we need to fire a coach. Happened with Mangongo, happened with Whatmore, and now it's time for Streak? In this case, what is funny though, is Streak himself has played a part with Taibu (as the reports said last month) in arranging the Afg matches. Even if we win our first ODI series against Afg in Feb, I would consider it progress, but Streak has put himself in a lose-lose situation here.

I don't understand the lose lose situation. Zimbabwe cricket is not really in a good position. Right now they need to play as much cricket as possible. Playing Scot, Afghan, Ireland, Netherland, UAE is much better then playing no cricket at all. If Zim is really better then the associates then they should have no problem beating them and proving to people they indeed are better then the associates.CrimsonAvenger wrote:Basically, we seem to invite Afg when we need to fire a coach. If they are afraid of associates and cannot beat them then what makes you hope for better results against top teams? Or is it just the fact that no one bat an eye when they lose to bigger teams, because people simply accept they are bigger teams..
In my opinion the recent approach of being open to play associates is much better. Had they taken this approach from 2010 then they would be in much better position then now.
Re: Series Thread: Zim A vs Afg A
It's common knowledge in cricketing circles that the coaching slot here is a dead loss. The wins are going to be few and far between for a host of reasons which we've discussed as nauseum, and you're either towing the line with admin against your better judgement and conscience or you're butting heads with them. My guess is Streak was hoping Taibu would do the butting heads part, which we've had no obvious evidence of as yet. In fact he seems to be sorting himself out nicely and doing it as far away from Zimbabwe as possible. The crazy part is ZC are going along with it. There seems to be a necessity to have a high profile ex player in a role, for some reason it's giving us credibility and an extension with ICC.
Re: Series Thread: Zim A vs Afg A
Afghan- you are mostly correct, except we would not be beating associates regularly. We don't have the players, it's just that simple. Admin don't want the world to see how shit our cricket is because we'd be demoted, so we wait for the money games so they can grab the money. I think they know there's no fixing the problem so it's all about mopping up the cash.
