Wait until tomorrow I reckon. Particularly as Jonno Campbell has been named twice in the squads 😅😅.

Matt Welch is carrying an injury. Would be a folly to include him. Though he receives top browny points for his 2 x innings last week while crocked.

Nick welch is maybe a couple of scores away from being included. Curran can count himself unlucky

Old rooster man out of favour  no way faraz is better than him. Bradders is top dog but on his way back from injury so understandable he hasn’t made the cut this time.

Whats the story with Brad Evans he seems to be back to full fitness but he cant find a place in one of the regional teams. That just doesnt make any sense at all.
CHRISTOPHER MPOFU: 'The problem was fear of failure. I used to think that when I played, if I didn't do well in one game, I would lose my place for the next one but now I've let go of that'

I’m not too concerned, he’s only been back on the circuit since the NPL after being out the game 18 months with injury. He’ll get his chance soon enough.

Seen on the socials today local fans aren’t happy with the national players wearing their helmets with the ZC crest on for domestic games   like there aren’t more pressing issues to be kicking up a stink about. It’s fine by me, they earned that helmet by being the best of the best, or knowing the right people. Mileage may vary.

Newman nyamhuri is deffo a wild card entry. However he did very well in under 19 world cup. I would have liked to have seen him play more 50 over matches however.

What they need to do is keep the actual concept of regionals going and rename these warm-up games to avoid confusion. Regionals should be the best performers of the domestic season playing against each other at the end of the season.

The concept is clear and they should keep it that way. For any teenager in Harare for example. The road to the top is:
HCMA 2nd league
Vigne Cup
NPL
Franchise gig
Regionals
'Emerging/ 'A' team
National team.

I personally agree that you can't pick guys off club cricket as strong as 1 game was. We need a clear path and consistent performances because the problem is if you let people in that easy one day Chibhabha will pick up a bat, dominate the NPL and that will be used to put him back in. It won't always be a forum favourite. It's no even discrimination against particular people. There are guys like Mufudza who have suffered for years.

It's pretty clear from both those teams that this is just practice and that they already know who they are going to pick.

Squads according to cricinfo, so obviously could be complete hogwash

Northerns - Kaitano, Kamanhukamwe, Gwandu, Bennett, Chataira, Madande (wk), Mavuta, Musekiwa, Muzarabani, Myers (c) & Munyonga

Southerns - Akram, Burl, Raza, Campbell, Ervine (c), Gumbie (wk), Madhevere, Maposa, Marumani, Mufudza & Ngarava

Northerns batting

That's a 5 year path minimum. Anyone that slowly ticks all those boxes ain't a top cricketer and is going nowhere, barring someone with nothing better to do than gamble his life on ZC doing the right thing.
If ZC sends you down that path, or any part of it you're doomed.
As we've seen the best guys, in an ideal world with no political shenanigans, go straight to U19 and from there can even go straight into the national side, but at the very least a franchise side or an emerging side.

I agree that they've got a side in mind, but what they very clearly don't want to do is pick a player in "the possibles" that peels off a big score and muddies the selection waters. That would be either or both of the Welch's or Curran or Evans or Jongwe or Naqvi in this particular instance.

The guy who potentially will cause confusion is Kamunhukamwe. Very capable of a big score, but then will struggle against international bowling.

Don't be fooled by their politics.
