This just in...
The newspaper concerned doesn't have an online edition, apparently. Can't speak for the accuracy of the report, but as I've said - until I see him on the field on a Zimbabwe kit...@zimcricket "Ervine is unsure whether his ZC contract can be broken but will see what Hants come up with." from local rag.

Well lets keep our fingers crossed.
If he doesn't make it though, atleast we have the players to back him up, i.e Duffin, Mowoyo
Re: Ervine is back in the fold
Ervine included in Zimbabwe's World Cup 15
Sean Ervine has been named in Zimbabwe's final World Cup squad just days after announcing he will quit Hampshire to resume his international career.
Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove is still hoping to persuade Ervine to stay with the county and will discuss the all-rounder's future with him after tonight's Caribbean T20 game against Barbados in Antigua.
But Ervine appears to have made up his mind and is joined in Zimbabwe's World Cup squad by former Hampshire teammate Greg Lamb.
The 28-year-old, who has 42 one-day international caps and played five Tests, last represented his country more than six years ago in a one-day international against Bangladesh in 2004.
He then fell out with the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) and was amongst several high-profile players to leave the country for political reasons.
His return, though, will be a major boost for the African country when they travel to the sub-continent for the global spectacle that begins on February 19.
Elton Chigumbura will lead the 15-man team, which also includes Ervine's brother Craig, as well as veteran Raymond Price.
Zimbabwe are in Group A for the tournament, alongside Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya.
Terrence Duffin, Tinotenda Mawoyo, Njabulo Ncube, Tinashe Panyangara and Vusimuzi Sibanda have been named as reserves.
Zimbabwe squad for the Cricket World Cup: Elton Chigumbura (captain), Regis Chakabva, Charles Coventry, Graeme Cremer, Craig Ervine, Sean Ervine, Gregory Lamb, Shingirai Masakadza, Christopher Mpofu, Raymond Price, Edward Rainsford, Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor, Prosper Utseya, Sean Williams.

Departing Ervine to follow World Cup dream
12 January 2011
By Steve Wilson
Sean Ervine will sign off his Hampshire career at the end of the Caribbean t20 after choosing to return to international cricket.
The burly Zimbabwean all-rounder was a vital member of the Royals side who lifted the Friends Provident t20 last summer but has decided he is ready to return to the international scene.
The 28-year-old has made himself available to his country once more and should receive a call-up to the ICC World Cup squad later this month.
That will see him revert to overseas status, and he admits it will be a wrench to leave the county.
Ervine said: 'International cricket is my ultimate goal.
'It's tough to leave Hampshire, who I hold as family.
'They've looked after me and I give them every praise possible.'
Ervine, who has 42 caps for his country, joined back in 2005 and had become an integral part of the side during his six-year stint. But he made just five runs in last night's Caribbean t20 defeat to Canada and his hopes of a glorious Hampshire swansong would already appear to be over.
Chairman Rod Bransgrove, who watched last night's clash with a face like thunder, is believed to be unhappy Ervine failed to outline his intentions to the county staff.
And there could yet be a storm brewing as the left-handed batsman is still under contract until the end of next season.
If, as expected, Ervine does depart, it will leave Hampshire once again trying to fill a gaping hole in their ranks in the build up to a new campaign.
After the problems with recruiting overseas players last term, Ervine's proposed departure will leave them without a recognised all-rounder and will drastically affect the balance of the side in all forms of the game, unless he can be replaced.

Official statement from Hampshire CCC:

http://www.rosebowlplc.com/news/hampshi ... -the-club/
I suppose I'll accept this as making it official. Personally, though, I think all the to'ing and fro'ing over this has been a complete farce. I'm also not convinced that bringing him back will work out - happy to be proved wrong on that - or that the 'rebels' have any place in the playing side (did an article on that here). But we'll see how things pan out.Following a meeting between Hampshire all-rounder Sean Ervine, First XI Manager Giles White and Chairman Rod Bransgrove this morning [Thursday 13th January] the club would like to confirm that Ervine will leave Hampshire in order to pursue his International ambitions with Zimbabwe. It brings an end to a six-year spell at The Rose Bowl in which he has helped the team win three trophies, scoring 3,956 first-class runs and taking 118 first class wickets in the process.
Ervine will finish this month’s Caribbean T20 competition with his Royals team-mates and then leave to take up his role with the Zimbabwe national team.
Giles White said, “Obviously, I’m disappointed that Sean will be leaving Hampshire. However, I fully understand the reasons for his decision.
“In his six years at The Rose Bowl, he has been a wonderful servant of the club and I wish him well in his future career.”
The all-rounder started his Zimbabwe career in 2001, playing 42 One Day Internationals and five Tests for the country before turning his back on International cricket in May 2004 over a dispute with the Zimbabwe Cricket Union. He signed for Hampshire in 2005 and scored centuries in both the semi-final and final of the C&G Trophy that season.
In 2010, Ervine recorded a career best 237 not out in the first innings of a LV= County Championship match against Somerset at The Rose Bowl. The knock also represented the highest score by any Hampshire batsman in the bottom half of the order, batting, as Ervine did, at seven.

Re: Ervine is back in the fold
If Hampshire hadn't picked him up when he turned his back on Zim in the first place, you can bet he wouldn't be coming back now. So say thank you to Hants for keeping him fit (sort of) and in form, and hope his return to playing in red is somewhat more glorious than Grant Flower's.sloandog wrote:Tough hampshire !

I'm trying to understand Hants attitude; yes they rescued the lad but they've had six of his best years. In my book that repays the debt the guy owed. Six years.
