The stats thing is a con. Madhevere has done nothing for a very long time. Musekiwa's average is nowhere near Campbell's. I was listening to a conversation where some guys were saying Musekiwa is the best striker of a cricket ball in Zim.
He's a great striker of a ball, not close to the best.

They had ample opportunity to bat Musekiwa during our triumphant victories in the Africa Z qualifier, but they didn't. To not want to change a winning team against the weakest opposition a member nation has ever played in the history of cricket is a bit sad
The obedient "journalists" trotted that one out. You can pay those guys 20 bucks to write anything and they do it. These "journalists" should be asking Mutendira stuff like- do you get instructions from anyone else?
Do you consult with Raza and Salamander? Do you drink before a selection meeting?
Do you really deep down in your heart believe you were hard done by 25 years ago and does that influence your selections? How much is Faraz paying? At what point will you consider stepping aside?
Do you feel proud, relieved or embarrassed when we beat Mozambique?

Faraz is just living proof, as if we needed more, of how corrupt ZC is. One would like to think that Salamander has no say in selections. If he does then he's a lemon. Does Mutendira also pick the batting line-up? I mean fuck it why doesn't he just coach the side? What we do know is that Raza has a lot of say. Maybe the convo went like this- Give me Faraz and I'll give you Wes. Whatever happened there was disgraceful. If Faraz is going to be our no 7 or 8 until Raza retires maybe he should bat up the order a bit in franchise and club cricket. Let's not forget he joined Takashinga club this last season, along with Raza in their vain attempts to beat the schoolboy Rangers side. We thought by Raza only bowling Faraz for 3 overs in the regionals he'd buried his mate, but in fact the deal was already in place. Silly us
That team was selected long ago
Raza must just stop saying country first and all that good stuff because we're no longer buying it.

When ZC (Mawoza) is questioned about Madhevere's and Akram's stats there's radio silence. We keep getting told that stats are the way they pick the players, but they left out the proviso that its only some of the stats and some of the players. A couple of the ghost accounts mentioned Faraz had a good time of it against Sri Lanka (? or was it Bangladesh?).
He absolutely did, fair dues to him. He's also possibly the worst fielder we've ever had. I feel a bit bad about rubbishing him because he's a great guy and a good cricketer, but what they're doing here is just bullshit, there are better all-rounders, better bowlers and better batsmen than him, depending on what role he's supposed to play.

So what happens if we lose badly? Do they blame the white players for throwing the game? For not trying hard enough? They've done that multiple times before.
Oh I know... it's a young team and we're in our 25th year of developing it. That's the go to.

Of course they may win and we'll all have to shut the f#* up. Factor in Pakistan throwing a game

I would be hugely curious what team Ervine and Williams would select!!!!
They've played at the highest level for 15 years or so, they play with all of these guys, they're high class batsmen. They've forgotten more about cricket than Mutendira has ever known. I guarantee theyre never consulted. My bet is that their teams would look very different. I wonder if they'll have to sign an NDA when they retire? They know the system well, just keep quiet, smile and wave and pray you get picked. And pray there's a role for them in ZC after they retire. I doubt. They could of course replace Jarvis who does not a lot, or Houghton who appears to have been sidelined. One of the most knowledgeable and respected men in world cricket sitting around twiddling his thumbs and getting old. Does it get worse than that?

Raza doesn't even play domestic cricket, probably hasn't seen half the players, he plays club cricket against Rangers only  That's a story all by itself and a big warning bell if you're a white guy
If Raza can influence team selection then surely Ervine has a say if he's the ODI captain?

Anyway let's see the starting line-ups and how we go.
For the first time in my life I'm wanting a few guys to fail and us to still win. That's a big conflict of interests.
We almost need to get smashed every single game so we can have a total reset because believe me they'll panic.

The you give me Faraz, I’ll give you Wez conversation totally went down  that’s an optimistic and generous exchange rate though. He’ll have got Faraz for Wez and at least one other.

It can all go wrong for raza just like anyone. Half the selections show it is not a results orientated business for ZC so dropping raza if he steps out of line is certainly not impossible. He gets more leeway than others of course.

As far as Madhevere goes, we all know he's currently shot his bolt and needs to reinvent himself and clean up his act. Nobody denies his talent in all departments, but his head has gone and he needs to regroup and come back stronger. They gave him to Mangongo in Bulawayo and they think that boot camp was enough. These series will tell, but I'm fairly certain it isn't. The pressure this guy is under is immense. Cricket is pressure and everyone feels it, but he's been 2 years in the mix without breaking through, yet getting opportunity after opportunity.
I'm assuming he's on a central contract. Imagine the financial disaster for him if he goes from 5k/month(just a guess)= 60k a year to 4K a year which is what the franchise guys are on. He'd cut his wrists. Just consider that for a minute- the franchise guys get about 300 a month. Many are married with kids. How???

What slays me is that they've picked him for the T20 squad. He doesn't hit it off the square, at least give him a format that he's better suited to. Do they think he'll perform better if he's only got to deal with 3 overs of pressure instead of 30?
He can perhaps take solace from the fact that he probably needs one run a ball 30 to remain relevant, or one 100 in franchise.

I've listened to selectors, particularly at age group, bartering for positions, but it's at every level. It's obviously not just ZC, it's everywhere. I've seen some outstanding talents in Zim just quit cricket because of the bias. It's been going on for decades. There have been black guys and Ndebele guys prejudiced, but the bulk of the casualties have been whites.
That's completely lost on the oh woe is me brigade.
Perhaps it isn't lost? Perhaps it's jeez that was satisfying. I think the latter. Squishing a guy that has practiced 10 times harder and twice as long has to be satisfying.

Mike Hussey is a good example of a top player that had to wait years for an opportunity. The difference is he was in a top environment in a world beating team and in the meantime he was probably making a decent living.

Our situation is a bit different. The one good thing is that there are suddenly about 4 or 5 extra players that are putting their hands up, or will be, and could/should be in the mix and it's causing hostility...amongst the supporters anyway.

I keep going back to Whittall's anger at one guy being picked whom he perceived (rightly or wrongly) to be not as good as someone else, and that was in a competitive side. For years we've had at least 2-4 players in the wings that would make a really weak side potentially a bit stronger. Wrap your heads around what the senior players are thinking every single time they play, it must be oh ffs here we go again and these clowns expect us to win.
It's no wonder they put their heads down and mind their own business and don't contribute much to bettering cricket, outside of trying to do well personally. Ervine and Williams both know they're under some pressure now. 3 or 4 shit games in a row and they're out...at least until their replacements have 20 shit games, or if their replacements are white they'll get 3 or 4 games as well.

We're suddenly up against some better sides. The likelihood of Raza saving us every game lessens considerably. They'll know how to bowl at him and will be good enough to land them. Obviously he justifiably has an almost infinite rope as far as failures go. The rope is short as far as captaincy though, they've already said Dion is next captain.
I'm a little surprised at Craig being the 50 over captain. Never really rated his captaincy, none of us on this forum have. Ditto Raza, but he is a bit more intuitive.

Look, I don't think Faraz will play all the games, but we await with bated breath where he gets bowled and how many overs he gets. Plus I guarantee they'll always pick a side where he does not have to be relied upon to bowl his full quota, if at all. That's effectively 2 players if someone is covering for him.
I've always rooted for him...but not this time. Sorry but we really need to start cleaning house.

These next 3 series should be Mutendira's and Chigumbura's heads on the chopping block if there's a disaster. It will be the first time it's fun to lose.

Losing to Pakistan and Afghanistan will be no great shakes or tremors for the ZC board. It might mean curtains for Salamander but mutendera and co will continue on.

I’d get him to work on his batting, a lot, he’s shown potential. Play him primarily as a batter (who might give some some bonus overs) and he’s less of a passenger

He's definitely not as passenger with the bat, he can surely play, but there are better.
But the whole point is that the best guys must play.

I totally agree. Just offering ZC a better way to get him in the side seeing as he's flavour of the month

Two players who can feel aggrieved are Munyonga and K long.
