I would hazard a guess that the money is in the betting. It would surely be naive to believe that the big dogs weren't involved in the online betting side of things.
Plus there is probably enough local interest and overseas interest, to a lesser extent, that ensures its not losing money. I'm just guessing here, I really have no idea
Test XI - Windies series

Have some faith, bud. We don't know yet. It's looking likely, but the team keeps surprising us. Mavuta with a 6fer. Ballance with a double.CrimsonAvenger wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 3:41 pmBack to the text XI topic, yeah, except for the Zim test debut of Ballance and his fitness over the period of test matches, there isn't much to look forward to in this potential carnage waiting to happen.

I only got excited in the first place because these were Zim tests . Haven't been following much cricket in general otherwise. But the team composition, with the extremely likely possibility of seeing Chamu and Maruma in the XI again... not sure how to get excited with that...Googly wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 3:46 pmHave some faith, bud. And if you end up with a working monopoly on T20 cricket worldwide you can dictate what happens and where.
I'm certain they know this is a winning formula. They'll try and crack the US market at some point, that will be work in progress, but that's a good long term investment. At some point the Americans will surely draw a comparison between baseball, where someone is lucky enough to get bat on ball once an hour and you see a home run (6) about every 4 hours after you've had a shave and a birthday.
The only thing T20 doesn't offer are those 80 man onfield brawls.

Re: Test XI - Windies series
For sure it is the betting market which ensures these leagues survive. International bookies usually have books open on even stuff like Zim domestic T20. Even such niche cricket as that, when ZC streamed it last year there were hundreds and hundreds of brainless incoherent fucking idiots from India or wherever who clearly cared 0 about the cricket but were incessantly spamming every three seconds on the YouTube 'live chat' about betting nonstop.
That's one element of it and the other is definitely the wider attempt by the ownership groups and the BCCI to control cricket as a whole worldwide. The ILT20, SA20 - most of the teams in both are owned by IPL owners.
Major League Cricket is starting in the US this year and I suspect eventually when they sell the teams off it will be the same ownership groups yet again. The ECB's plan is to sell off Hundred teams eventually to private owners too.
We will get to a point when players retire from international and 'domestic' cricket and sign exclusive contracts with ownership groups to play for the various branded teams in every corner of the world, wherever the owner dictates.

ILT20 is not a small league kriterion, it is the second most lucrative league after the IPL, yet it has been an abysmal failure, at least from what I can see.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 3:10 pmThats what I can't figure out. If India is a the fulcrum of cricket fans, then the majority of cricket fans worldwide (ie Indians) they don't give a shit about PSL, BPL, ILT20, The 100, and BBL...so how do these leagues keep on going? At some point these T20 leagues (the smaller ones in unsustainable places like UAE) have to collapse, right? That should return international cricket to some degree of normalcy like it was 10-15 years ago, shouldn't it?sam_ahm wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 1:40 pm
Very disappointed with Sikki. I understand the idea is to let him and Burl have the exposure so that it helps during the Qualifiers but let me tell you that ILT20 is literally being played in empty stadiums and at least in India barely anyone is watching or even cares or even knows that this tournament is happening.
PSL, BBL, BPL, 100, SA20 all have their local audience, which is why they will do fairly well irrespective of the Indian audience watching them or not. However, they obviously won't be as big a success as the IPL.
Yes, these random T10 league, ILT20, some random league planned in USA just to target indian audience, esp by these IPL owners will definitely fail. I'm sure about this.
International cricket may not go back to what it was 15 yrs ago, but it also won't be dominated by franchise leagues as much as people are expecting it to. International cricket will definitely survive and survive well.
There is a huge surge in fantasy cricket games in India, a lot of people have got addicted to these fantasy cricket gaming and end up watching every useless game just to see how their fantasy team players are performing. Many people have lost huge sums of money on these sites in a bid to become a millionaire overnight. Some have even committee suicide and these games are now banned in 6-7 states. Once people realize this scam, the viewership of these random leagues will come further down.
