Eddie Byrom FC debut for Somerset
Re: Eddie Byrom FC debut for Somerset
Yep, he's got an Irish passport and signed a 2-year deal in June. Trescothick has also signed on for 2018.

Re: Eddie Byrom FC debut for Somerset
Interesting to see if the reason he's in the ZRS side is because he has shown interest in playing for Zimbabwe so they want him to apart of the young squad or if they want him to bolster the weak ZRS batting lineup ??saifulsohel05 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2017 10:20 pmByrom added in Rising Star squad! https://mobile.twitter.com/ZimbabweAcad ... 3513423873
Either way it's a good sign even if he doesn't play for Zimbabwe the locals can at least watch him play.

I'm just happy he's back playing in Zimbabwe and being given exposure. Ok he may not be having national ambitions just yet, but it appears that ZC (or Taibu) are clearly starting to get to grips with the fact that in kids like Welch, Byrom and a couple of others they missed a big opportunity, and the least they can do is get them involved in the FC structure
Re: Eddie Byrom FC debut for Somerset
Please can somebody explain to me how this eligibility stuff works in cricket. If Byrom signed his county contract using his Irish passport and not a kolpak what stops him from playing for us if he has dual citizenship? Are there county rules that stop that. Mire also has dual citizenship but it looks like he might be in our domestic setup permanently now. Don't know if that is a coincidence or some sort of rule.
Thinking back to high school a lot of white kids had dual citizenship as it was allowed until you were about 18. Now with the new constitution it's possible to be an adult and have 2 passports. We need to look into this further as this could be a way of getting guys to play for us without giving up their comfortable first world lives.

As I understand it, if he’s playing for a foreign country he’s an overseas player, whether he has Irish (or even British) citizenship.

Does this mean he might be returning Sloan ? Make my day if he is !sloandog wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2017 11:43 pmI'm just happy he's back playing in Zimbabwe and being given exposure. The Zimbabwe Cricket team have found Ebola in one of their members, but they're not concerned because they have also found Ebatsmen and Efielda!
Re: Eddie Byrom FC debut for Somerset
Byrom is currently signed as a local player
Once he makes himself available for Zimbabwe ( or maybe a better is ‘if’ ) he would become an overseas player which would void his contract

ZC-Taibu-Streak are really making serious efforts and no amount of praise would be too great IMO.. This HAS to be the strongest ZIM side since the rebels left in 2004...perhaps even stronger than the 2003 WC team with A Flower and Olanga (anyone else think so?).sloandog wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2017 11:43 pmI'm just happy he's back playing in Zimbabwe and being given exposure.
