Hmmm...yes and no. All other full nations generally have 5-28 teams (yes...28..India...they do things differently...ditto Pakistan with 26, Sri Lanka with 14 and South Africa with 14 for their 3-day first class). Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies and Bangladesh have tournaments featuring 5-8 teams. Bangladesh though does also have a tournament featuring just 4 teams (their Bangladesh Cricket League which has 4 zonal teams).
I think a 4 team competition can work in Zimbabwe, but it would have to be supported by a secondary first-class competition (a 3-day competition like in South Africa) featuring 8-10 teams.
We need a 5th and 6th team. I strongly feel we should at least have a one day competition that includes the Rocks and an academy or Under 19 side. AFter possibly 3 years the lads move intergrate the rocks into 4 day cricket.

Isn't the 50 over competition supposed to be having the U19s in it this year?
The number of teams isn't the issue, the problem is that most of young players go off to university as they can't afford to stick around and play a handful of matches for a couple of hundred dollars. Thus our domestic teams are filled with plodders who have no hope of ever being good.

According the the updated fixtures the Under 19s will partcipate in the 50 over competition this year which i think is a fantastic effort the get them prepared for the world cup.
