ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018, Zimbabwe : Discussion
Re: ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018, Zimbabwe : Discussion
Who are you making coach and selector then TapsC ??
Sure there are better coaches out there than Streak but are we going to get one to coach Zimbabwe ??
Yes guys like Waller, Burl, Moor & Mire probably deserve to be dropped BUT are you happy to risk picking Cephas, Mutombodzi or Prince for the qualifiers with no real decent cricket behind them ???
If we were just playing a 5 Match ODI series v Pakistan yes I’d like to see Zhuwao, Mutombodzi & Prince given a try but with the qualifiers in a week it’s too big a risk imo
I’m backing Mire, Burl, Moor & Tari to come good and hopefully Williams returns

Re: ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018, Zimbabwe : Discussion
That's an important point. It would have been wise to do that given the unique tough situation ZC operates in. Either way, we stood to gain from it.
But in general though, selectors of no other national team is also without criticism. May be some explain the rationale behind selections and omissions, some don't. Some selections click - like the Marsh brothers for CA in the Ashes - and the selectors look like heroes, and some fail - like Rohit Sharma for the SA test series - and they look like fools. The Lankan selectors have been atrocious for the last couple of years chopping and changing all the time. Never before have any of the selection panels in Zim have explained the rationale too. This heightened levels of frustrations of fans is also because everyone knows a lot is at stake.

The selectors will have their reasons, but they need to be based on solid grounds. The guys that keep getting picked are simply not performing. Tari looked ok yesterday, but nothing special. He batted a bit like Stuart Matsi, very hard hands and just followed at the ball. Burl looks more compact but neither have impressed me.
They deserve more time, though.
The senior players need to put their hands up more and show some grit. If and when we fail to qualify for the CWC, I can certainly see some radical changes being brought into play.

Harsh but truth is Afghanistan, Scotland going to qualify along with Hong Kong.Zimbabwe aren't lucky, they are in the pool with three Asian Teams, who has some quality spinners, which are enough to trouble Zimbabwe.
Mindset & Confidence of Zimbabwe has gone down, tracks in Zimbabwe are slower and spinners will get success. Zimbabwe batsman are terrible failure against spinners, they are having no clue in which direction bowl going to spin. Nepal side has got enough confidence booster before the qualifiers, they also have quality spinner to trouble Zimbabwe.
Spinners getting out Zimbabwe Batsman in Tri Series in Bangladesh - 4 matches, 11 wickets
Afghanistan Spinners getting out Zimbabwe Batsman in recently concluded Odi Series - 5 matches, 37 wickets
Zimbabwe batting coach Lance Kluesner might be a legendary allrounder, but haven't seen him tackling spinners well in his playing days, his advice of tackling spinners isn't proving successful for Zimbabwe

The only thing that can save us is if our batting finally clicks , with a core of hammy , Taylor ervine, Raza and Williams on home decks it’s our best chance . I feel our bowling is at a very good level at the moment with depth and variation of all sorts it’s up to run makers to set or chase big scores and the rest I feel will sort itself. Blessing I feel will be the special weapon I feel as his height and extra pace he has shown lately could grab a few teams by suprise and really ruffle some feathers. Like I said before it’s time to make at least 2 big changes with Waller The first to go. I feel we have to back mire as on his day against some average bowlers he could really rock up to the party and blow some sides away. Our best bet at winning in the short term is go back to 8-3 lineup and Williams come in as a lower order saviour and 7-10 overs of steady left arm orthodox. I still feel we are a massive chance as all the teams are not consistent including the windies and afg ( even though we lost 4-1) . If we can qualify for the World Cup I’m sure this will be a new lease on life for all involved in zim cricket and the fans . You can just feel the tension , it’s why we love this game so much .
Indian and English cricket is a cult and bazball is delusional and embarrassing. Bumrah chucks it, Cummins has a shocking seam position, stokes is a fraud. Bangladesh shouldn’t have test status, Bradman was a coat.Marco Jansen is good, zim will rise !

But if we don't qualify, it will be a diabolical disaster, with critical funding for the structure of ZC being cut off. This is very much make or break if we are to continue being a full icc memberAndybligzz wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2018 12:15 pmThe only thing that can save us is if our batting finally clicks , with a core of hammy , Taylor ervine, Raza and Williams on home decks it’s our best chance . Don’t stress.
We are at HOME.
We always play BETTER at home!
All our disasters are OVERSEAS
We are playing AFFILIATES
Very simply, we are going to make the semi, we will play the windies, Afghanistan or Ireland most likely.
We need to win that game and that game only
It’s somply going to be a case of betting on red or black at the roulette table. 47 percent chance of winning that game.

Someone said there is no semi, just a super six. So we'd need to be in the top two, and then NRR and the like comes into play.ZIMDOGGY wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2018 12:49 pmDon’t stress.

I thought I read here there was a semi?
Eek. That makes it harder.
I think it’ll be windies and either the Afghans/us/Ireland or the Dutch as smokies.
We next I prepare pace type pitches to negate Afghanistan when they play, so they drop a game or two. That plays into Ireland’s favour.
I hope the crowd really get behind the boys

I doubt 200 people at Bulawayo Athletic Club will intimidate the Afghani's.ZIMDOGGY wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2018 12:57 pmI thought I read here there was a semi?

We've dug ourselves quite the hole. Honestly, we just need to hope that when we play Ireland and Afg we pull the rabbit out of the hat both times. Assuming each game is a 50/50, and I think best case scenario that is true... we have a 25% chance of qualifying (which feels about accurate to me).
