Surely the players should just, not play..? There has to be internal strife right now within the players association
There’s no games to play anyways

If the current lot go on strike, ZC will just move down the ladder to the next tier of players to fill the national side. There is always someone stupid or desperate enough to play for Zimbabwe.

I just found out about this today and I've got to say... WHAT!? Streak was the best thing to happen to Zim for a long time. Seemed like he was really building something, and that they were performing pretty well. Maybe the skill level just isn't there, maybe this team can't crush other teams like it should, but he was getting a lot out of these players. I remember when Raza was having a terrible run, getting single-digits against Namibia or something, and Streak stuck with him and now he's one of the 3 mainstays in the team. On top of that, he helped bring Jarvis and Taylor back which (even if they don't contribute the runs or wickets) is a massive precedent for the future so that they can get players like Snater and stuff back. Not only would this increase the player pool, it makes the domestic competition 100350238x more difficult and gives the best players a much more worthwhile challenge.

I don't really want to point fingers at the admin, just want to say it might be decision like these that keep Zimbabwe out of the next World Cup.

I agree with this. Unfortunately there is always someone who is desperate enough and will be turned by false promises. A player strike has to be a unanimous player strike. One that has a board in charge of them and that board is the only board the players will support.

The sackings are not even a cost saving exercise because they have to pay out contracts, so it's a mindless decision without any foresight or plan.

We need a break away.

What needs to be made public are the terms and conditions of that loan. Firstly I find it difficult to believe Mr Bvute arranged supposed bridging Finance for ZC on terms that suited ZC and not Metropolitan bank, in which he also has a major interest. Who was the policeman in this transaction? This is a highly questionable transaction. A new board would surely tackle this issue as a matter of urgency. This loan was signed years ago, how much interest has been repaid to date? Have they even started on the capital portion yet?? We must be fast approaching the in duplum rule (interest can’t exceed capital). Not only that, there’s a government stipulated maximum annual interest percentage that can be charged. They’re mainly ensconced there to ensure this “debt” keeps getting serviced.
I’m sure ICC and the auditors have looked into this, but were I the new chairman Metropolitan would be sweating.
I guarantee that loan prejudices ZC and not Metro.

Not only that, ZC owns houses, properties, cars and other assets that, in my view are completely unnecessary.

With us not qualifying these fellows are NOT going to spend money on development, FC, club, age group or nothing.

This whole scapegoat thing they’ve kicked off is nonsense.
Who within the ZC is questioning this? That board and any other board they may have just rubber stamp what two or three people decide to do. You can’t tell me three runs makes you an arsehole or a hero.
A board of people who know fuck all about cricket all deciding that the coaching staff all have to go just stinks.
There are absolutely no checks and balances within this organization. This is what the players and ICC need to address or we are doomed, and there’s no time like now.

They definitely won’t be settling contracts that have ended prematurely. Someone like Phil Simmons who’s still owed money from years ago will bear testimony to that.

The problem with new coaching appointments is that there’s always someone prepared to do it. Firstly coaching a national side on your CV looks good, although no one has really benefited from this, because it has always ended badly. The problem is the next incumbent always believes it will somehow be different for them.
Also there’s the lure of the additional salary, whether the technical staff experience the same late or no payments I can’t answer.
With our exchange control issues ZC will operate an offshore account, bringing money onshore when it’s not immediately required would not be dissimilar to using it to light a barbecue. The Reserve Bank and the taxman here are something else. When that loan was taken I find it difficult to believe it was legally negotiated in hard currency, so why would it be being repaid in such? Renege on the loan and swap it out on the rate of the day over the next 25 years. By the time they receive their money the pointy shoes will be swapped out for flip flops

The rate today is 1.5. When money comes onshore who benefits from the extra 50%? That’s a chunk of money.
