Sad that Namibia are missing 5-6 players, bad timing! Think they will struggle as a result.
Canada despite being from the lower division look like everything has come together at the right time. I think they will qualify.
Think the 2nd place will go to the UAE. They’ve sacked the tragic coach they had which should help.

I’m looking at their stats and it doesn’t look like Namibia are missing anyone with really good averages. I reckon Wiese has retired, but even then his stats were merely decent in League 2. Granted he can always change a game.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 5:40 pmSad that Namibia are missing 5-6 players, bad timing! Think they will struggle as a result.
I think Namibia are like Afghanistan, a much better T20 die than 50 overs which requires a lot more skill and fitness.

They are missing all of Divan La Cock (Uni Exams), Wiese (IPL - has not retired), Williams (retired v recently), Louwrens, Lungameni, JJ Smit and Frylinck (all injured).
All would be in their squad if available.

Re: 2023 World Cup Qualifier discussion
The 10-team CWC came about because of the 2007 tournament in the West Indies. That tournament had the best format of all, a short group stage which allowed for 16 teams but fewer games against the minnows leading into a longer Super8s. Unfortunately neither India or Pakistan made it past the initial group stage so the format was ditched. Basically any tournament is deemed a failure if India don't win or at least make the semis. Sporting results are a distant concern compared to broadcast money. What I don't get is this, for such cricket fanatics, Indians seemingly couldn't care about the game when their own team isn't playing, unless it is a made up T20 franchise.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

Yeah Namibia are missing a lot of players and I fear they might miss out from what looked like a certain place in the WCQs. Even if not others, two players they are desperately missing - JJ Smits and T Lungameni.
They still have a chance though if they win all their remaining 4 games, they will need Erasmus to step up and lead them through, I'm a bit surprised that despite not having some of his key bowlers, Erasmus didn't bowl himself. That's very odd because normally he would bowl even with a full strength side and here he could have filled in for some overs of Ya France and Shikongo.
Canada, I agree are looking good. PNG and Jersey won't make it, so it is basically two places amongst 4 teams - USA, Namibia, UAE and Canada.

To be fair PNG and Jersey were the weakest sides entering the tourney. And it’s still only been 1 round out of 5.
That said, I’m hoping the US tops the group as there is no final. Will be interesting to see who qualifies.
