Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v India (Tri Series 1st Match)
lol he also called him craig 'erwine'.
It seems to be a common problem with our indian kinsmen, getting that name mixed up.

Zimbabwe's top 4 successful chases now involves 3 against India (2day, Jodhpur victory and Marillier magic)

I don't think there was any offencive intent there Conant. Perhaps it was just due to the fact that an Indian wrote the article..??Conant wrote:Really Zimdoggy!! Why Indian?ZIMDOGGY wrote:lol he also called him craig 'erwine'.

I believe we should stop categorizing ppls. I made fun of Siddhartha post without realising he is Indian. There are no blacks, whites or mixed ones in Cricket Zimbabwe. Any one wearing that coveted jersey is a proud Zimbabwean only. MacKay might consider himself Aussie but for me he represented Zimbabwe once and hence a proud fellow Zimbabwean.
Guys, this is the time to enjoy Champagne and dream for future so lets just enjoy this moment.
Well done Cricket Zimbabwe

Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v India (Tri Series 1st Match)
Well done to the team! I just finished watching the game - it was on TV here, but on delay, so I made sure not to check any cricket websites over the past 24 hours. And am I glad I didn't, what a great match. Brendan Taylor was superb, one of the best runouts you'll see from a wicket keeper (the backwards flick) and was involved in all but one of the Indian dismissals. And then backed it up with a composed knock including some really elegant boundaries. On the commentary they said that Taylor was really excited about the game as he loves the responsibility of keeping wicket and opening the batting - it was evident in the way he played.
Unfortunate that he didn't go on to make his second ODI century, but made no difference to the result. Didn't affect his man of the match award either
Ervine looked fantastic on debut, such a calm performance. Coventry did what Coventry does, and it came at the right time. Masakadza helped with Taylor to get the team off to the right start, good innings. Lamb played an important role too, it's important for Zimbabwe to build partnerships and he made a contribution. After Chigumbura's woeful start with the ball, he'll be thrilled that he was able to play that cameo at the end and register a 100% winning record as captain.
I thought we bowled pretty well (besides that Chigumbura over), and our fielding was good as always. But our batting really clicked, everything fell into place and it was a real team effort as Taylor alluded to in his comments to the media.
It was an Indian second eleven, true. But you can only play against the opponents you're presented with, and Zimbabwe played very well. I don't think this takes anything away from the win, there's been times when Zimbabwe has lost to teams much less talented than this Indian team. It will be interesting to see how Zimbabwe go throughout the tournament, the team has a tendency to start strong. The important thing is to keep up the intensity for the remaining matches.
Great win Zimbabwe, well done!

Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v India (Tri Series 1st Match)
Taylor lauds Zimbabwe's all-round performance
"The plan was to basically just keep knocking the ball around. We know we have Andy Blignaut and Elton [Chigumbura] at the bottom there and Charles [Coventry] coming in too. So we've got the firepower to catch up in the end with the batting Powerplay. There wasn't really too much risk to be taken.
"We were trying to bat the way they [India] sort of started; construct the innings pretty well. It was a nice wicket to bat on, [the strategy was to] not lose too many wickets and back yourself to really have a go."

Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v India (Tri Series 1st Match)
I could only watch the match after Lamb was out, and that in itself was a treat! Top 5 moments of the match for me:
5. Coventry's first six that went 99 metres. That pretty much announced the intent for win.
4. Neil Manthorp announcing on air that Alan Butcher liked the look of Craig Ervine and straightaway wanted him around the national squad. If this is his ability to spot talent, then Zim Cricket is in safe hands
3. Ervine's debut fifty. The boundary that clinched it. What a bright start to the career!
2. Vinay Kumar's beauty to clean up Coventry. Great planning and execution, and at that stage of the match, even the best in business would not have had the answer for that well directed and well disguised slower ball yorker. Probably the only high point for India in the second half of the match.
1. The win, obviously! Chiggs and Ervine hugging each other after the skipper hit the winning shot. Prosper Utseya's wonderful and cheerful smile when he shook hands with Alan Butcher. Great to see a wholehearted smile from Prosper, with no pressure of captaincy and happiness for his team mate's success.
Of course, contributions of Mpofu, Hamilton and Taylor were all extremely special. Lamb, Utseya and Price contributed too.
