I'd be surprised if he opted out of those county games, it's more likely he was giving his injury as long as possible to heal.
For me Williams plays whenever he puts his hand up, he's about our best batsman, aside from Ballance.

Probably our strongest squad in this format.

Nyauchi hasn't been at his best in the shorter format so I'm happy for his omission.

Surely Ngarava has to come good this series he must be on thin ice.

My starting 11:

Kaia
Ervine
Ballance
Williams
Raza
Burl
Madande
Evans
Mavuta
Ngarava
Muzarabani

Bench
Marumani
Madhevere
Masakadza
Chatara
I agree with this Cal. People won't like Ervine opening and it certainly isn't ideal. But the alternative if Wes opens is that everyone shuffles down one and you have to play 1 less bowler and the side doesn't seem balanced.
Or Marumani opens AND keeps wicket which seems too much considering the poor form he is in.
I think you've got it spot on with that XI.

The other option is Wes opens and you drop Mavuta, thinking Wes/Burl/Raza/Williams is enough in the spin department. Harsh on Mavuta though, and I definitely don't trust Wes currently with bat.

Don't think Madhevere or Marumani deserve a spot in this squad but for team balance one of them has to open the batting

So I guess Williams just pitches up for national assignments now

Probably the best squad they can pick for now. Wes is the one under serious pressure because Marumani is basically the reserve keeper. This will probably be the June squad as well minus 1 guy. I would think Wellington and Mavuta are fighting for 1 spot. Chatara is safe
Obviously Williams wanted to get his injury right

Wesley will probably open. His off spin may well have saved him in the county games, Plus unlike marumani he actually has 50s against top sides such as australia and pakistan. He is on thin ice though and needs to up his game considerably

That's a good line-up, but Evans, Madande and Mavuta currently have done nothing with the bat and haven't given us much indication that they can. Madhevere you at least know has made runs against quality opposition.

There would be an argument for swapping Madande and Marumani perhaps. Or Mavuta and Madhevere, or Mavuta and Masakadza, or Ngarava and Chatara.

But not a bad pick at all. Ervine has to open in my opinion.
At least there's now a bit of head scratching to be done.

No point playing Mavuta when you have Raza Burl and Williams. Having 3 allrounders allows you to play an extra bat which will be required. Madande has to be first option as keeper. Ervine bats much better at 3 so madhevere opens for mine

On Madande - he has a fantastic domestic record, hit the winning runs with a boundary off the last ball Vs Ireland, and got to double figures 5 times Vs the Counties which is more than pretty much everyone else?

Definitely deserves a run in the side imo.
