I'm sure he will play for Ireland at some point soon, especially if they ever play a Test again - they'll need his red ball experience.

He's a talented lad, was good for Zimbabwe and it's sad he chose to go elsewhere. But the truth is his wicketkeeping isn't very good these days, he's never going to be captain for Zim (After his attitude and falling out with everyone) - so you are looking at him purely as a batter. But then the fact is he hasn't consistently scored runs or dominated either in Zimbabwe or Ireland over the past few years. It would be great if we had him as a depth option but he hasn't done enough tbh. He's talented so he's well capable of having a good season and changing that.

ZC hate him and for once I don't blame them. U19's leaving to go and play county cricket as youngsters before they've played for Zimbabwe is one thing, but moving mid-career after many games for Zim and saying you want to play for one of our rival nations......eeeish. I'm not surprised everyone dislikes him here. I'm actually quite surprised they still let him play for Mountaineers tbh. Luckily for him our board and system isn't quite as bitter and vindictive as it was a few years ago.

I read jaybros follow up and understood he wants him as a band aid when the big 3 retire.
The problem is though he will be about 34 himself at that point. He will be 32 in a couple of months.

You’d be better off looking at Welch/Byrom/Shady bros and Bennett.
Or that black guy who broke those records.

Yes he would be a senior guy to lead around the youngsters once the Big 4 guys retire. Ideally yes we’d bring back Welch, Byrom, Muyeye & either of Schadendorf or Murray.

But imo PJ is a ‘Moor’ realistic option

It's not in the slightest bit realistic because he doesn't want to play for Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe doesn't want him to play for Zimbabwe.

Hamilton coming out of retirement is more realistic!

He hasn’t made a run for a couple of years! What did he do to Hamilton? And why does he even get a game back in domestic cricket?

I’ll take your word for it as you’re clearly closer to the action than I, although I will say the current ZC board/ admin are quite forgiving when they have to be. Raza, Williams, Ervine, BT etc have all had their fair share of run ins with them and always been welcomed back.

I guess they’re smart enough to realise they needed those guys, as the bench strength has never been strong enough to discard them. That’s where I see the small opening for PJ, although he clearly isn’t if the same calibre of those other guys who have sinned.

Forgive me, but can you refresh me on what PJ has done to offend Hamilton so much?

Is William Mashinge available to play for Zimbabwe ? He is putting on performances.

Also I will be keeping an eye on Jonathan Campbell & Nyasha Mayavo.

Well worrying about bench strength is a recent thing, prior to the Houghton era they were happy with 11 players in total in the entire country. Moor and Masakadza didn't see eye to eye when Moor was vice captain, not sure why. Team selection? Line-up? There was a lot going on behind the scenes back then and there was a big divide.
I doubt he doesn't want to play for Zim, he just couldn't cement a spot and exercised his options. As soon as you do that then you really go to the back of the queue, and they've got long memories.
Houghton has definitely brought some stability. He's also effectively guaranteed the incumbents' ongoing tenureship at the next election without them having to really dig into the big box of tricks. We're in the quiet time between crises, and that magic card being pulled, long may it last.

Ya of course he is. The above 3 have had a couple of decent outings, they've got a way to go before they are in the frame for national selection and then they'd need to improve some more.

One thing of note to add which we missed before. Walter Chawaguta is now coaching the Tuskers not Hondo. I wonder where Doug is?
