Taibu has accepted a role as Zimbabwe Cricket's convener of selectors and development officer , a position he will take up next month, and one of his missions is to install floodlights at the country's premier ground. It may sound like that should be a peripheral priority but Taibu has a compelling reason for putting it near the top of his list. "Most ICC limited-overs events are played under lights and our players don't get any experience of that at home
so they are not used to it at all," he said from the UK, where he has been based for the last few years. "They need to be able to compete in those tournaments."
Pylons have been up at HSC for years and the lights are also there, having spent months at Harare airport awaiting payment for being released.
The flood lights issue has been on my mind for a while now , partly because I wasn't entirely happy with our win over Pakistan last year (the game that was cut short because of bad light ).Taibu , to me is a genius for raising the subject ZC has ignored for so long. This is one of his many ideas to improve the quality of the game & I hope they give him all the support he needs.Lastly I hope he's not telling us what we want hear just to promote his upcoming book.

I would like to know how Chingoka/Bvute never managed to get those lights released from Customs? There's a lot more to the light story methinks. Plus of course the top of the light towers are upside down, that's a big job to sort that out.

The lights have been in the containers in the carpark for years!!! Stuck at customs my arse.

Are they in the containers that are by the Astra nets? If so they have been there for a while, but before that they were stuck in Customs. I will bet there was an issue of falsifying the invoice values and someone got caught.

As usual, Googly - the local "source" has things all wrong. Bring on Taibu and his revolutionary vision for ZC!jimmylesaint wrote:The lights have been in the containers in the carpark for years!!! Stuck at customs my arse.
