Zimbabwe Cricket in 2016 remodelled themselves bringing new think tank & coach, but what they still can't controll is the " payment problem ". Since 2000, every year the domestic cricket is hit by player strikes & protest for non payments. It was from the year 2000, when government threatened not to provide any funds to cricket, due to racial saga i,e bring in quota policy on skin colour. As a result, some major quit to Zimbabwe Cricket took place. Star of world cricket in 2000 era, Neil Jhonshon & wuality batsman Murray Goodwin decided to retire and move to Australia & England because of payment problems. Because of funding & payment issues, Zimbabwe loosing their key players as well as under 19s talents to other nation.
The Logan Cup 2016-17 match between Bulawayo Metropolitan Tuskers and Midlands Rhinos ended prematurely yesterday following an unfortunate misunderstanding between players on provincial contracts and the provinces they represent. An the end of 2nd day of the match, Rhinos were 64/4 in their second innings, after scoring 323 in first innings, and blowing thd tuskers for 112, Rhinos were looking to provide some big total. But what happened at the start of the 3rd day, was really embarassing. players first refuse to take the field owing to non fullfillment of their dues in their provincial stinct. However after lunch, it was seen that only central contract players taken the field, with Williams & Mutumbami opening the batting for Tuskers, and not even eleven men have taken the field for the Rhinos. It was found that players having contract from Zimbabwe Cricket Board were there in the field while others were in strike. Before the start of the season, matches were scheduled to begin from December 15th, later it was shifted to december 18th, however, the news revealed that players were not intetested to play because of the non payment of the dues, on december 16th it was decided that games will begin from January, however on 17th december, franchise meeting, players were told to take the field from December 18th.
Rhinos were awarded the match, winning by 20.
Bumper domestic season is clearly under threat now as franchises are clearly out of funds creating jokes in the field. As per test cricket is concerned, ICC has got certain guidelines for the domestic cricket set up for the full member nation representing test cricket, hope Zimbabwe Cricket doesn't fall for breaking code of conduct.
