Recall Vusi Sibanda to the Test side

Post by pariah »

Vusi Sibanda remains one of the best batsmen in Zimbabwe, and one of its best performers ever since Zimbabwe resumed Tests in 2011.

He did relatively well against decent bowling attacks in his unusual opening position.

He last played a Test at home in 2014 when he top scored that innings against a very strong SA attack.

To be dropped after just one match away in BD is and was unfair.

Zimbabwe has been struggling for a long time now and it's very clear that he would add at value to the side.

It's strange that after both Firdose and Liam in articles acknowledging that Vusi needs to be used in the middle order and would be productive there, that has not happened and needs to extensively.

It's all fair and fine to bank on youngsters coming up, but are they really up to Vusi's standard right now? The answer is NO!

Zimbabwe need Vusi. In fact, Zimbabwe need Shingi, Panyangara and Chatara too!

The likes of Mumba and Musakanda have been trialed. The risks in Mire don't look promising. ZIM needs to make the most of these senior players before they are completely gone.

Hamilton Masakadza has proven several times lately that ZIM still desperately needs these players.

Sibanda has the best technique in the country, and that's probably a fact not many here would strongly argue against.

But he is easily one of the biggest flops, too. An average of 21 in 28 knocks for Zimbabwe does not correlate with his ability, true, but it does indicate that he's not a test cricketer. Stats like that strongly suggest that he's either not mentally strong enough or he just loses concentration easily, and neither of these are sufficient for test cricket.

I reckon he could add some value in ODI cricket up top, because he can just play his natural game but at the moment, Mire and Hammie are doing the business.

Sibanda could have been quality, but what he had in technique he lacked in mental toughness, and that will always be his downfall

The guy has had 2 50's in 28 innings in Tests and is 34.

Where's his scope?

No doubt you'll cry he's been forced to open - well he aint going to get in the middle order! Ervine, Taylor, Raza all better than him. Williams and Moor probably are too.

You may as well go with Chari opening rather than Vusi. He's only one 50 behind and is 25.... And he's not even the answer!

I actually wonder who people prefer between Vusi and Chamu in the overall squad. Chamu is the next guy in up top and he is ok but I don't know if he is actually better than Vusi.. never really thought about that.

Why should the red carpet be rolled out for Vusi ?

He’s done nothing to earn a recall he hasn’t even played a first class game this year ffs

He’s only played 6 Logan Cup games in two and a half years and left early last season to take up a club contract.

Hhm cries about the special treatment for the white guys but is happy to pick Vusi for no reason

The way Vusi crumbles in the commentary box highlights his mental ability for me. His thoughts are all over the place and he seems to lack confidence and granted being a good commentator does not mean you are a good batsman it feel it provides some insight into how such a talented batsman can fail so often

Unfortunately and whether you or I like it or not, business is very far down the pecking order, and unless he has a magic Logan cup season this or next he is gone for good.

He's 34 and Now he's in the commentary box you can bet he is thinking about either a media career, or life beyond cricket.
