our seamers pace??? something to worry about..

Post by bigdoggpitbull »

im a bit worried that our seamers are bowling a bit too slow for test cricket..i mean blig has been bowling at gentle pace in this tri-series but we all knw he is coming from an injury ande a long lay off..so he may take time.jarvis is sidelined for another month or 2..that leaves us with masakadza but he is not being played..rainsford and chitara are gentle medium pacers(max 133), while mpofu can hit 135kph when he wants to..it may come as a surprise but chibhabha hit 136kph against SA and went over 135kph four times..he is one of the faster bowlers we hav around..thats why streaky and co made him open the bowling ahead of elton..definitely in the top 4 in terms of pace believe it or not..elton has been concentrating on his batting and his pace has suffered..he has dropped to the middle 120s..streaky, houghton, silverwood and bundu waller were impressed with aliseni's pace(that's the tuskers bowler streak said he was impressed by)..so my best bet is that we get at least 4 seamers bowling 140kph..they can be taught how to move the ball around at that pace..our batting is almost there(hamilton, taibu, taylor, williams, ervine, ewing, coventry and mtizwa are allgood enough for test cricket)..our spinners are excellent..all we need to get is 4 fast men..not 135kph bowlers but 140kph+ bowlers..

Another problem with medium pace is that when we play international cricket our batsmen aren't too used to ferocious pace, hence our batting collapses at times.

We can only be ready for test cricket once we start playing it, i guess. Eventually we should be able to get genuine pace bowlers as long we keep playing competitive franchise cricket. We got Streak on the case.

I don't really care about pace as long as they get wickets. Control and movement is much more important IMHO.

Ya,you're right but pace above 140 is required to trouble the batsmen :)

Ya exactly. Glen Mcgrath was a prime example. He was quick enough, around the 83-84mph mark and still manages to move it about. We need to find somebody like this

I think Ireland, Jarvis and Rainsford are the good bowlers that Zim have at present.I think Jarvis is fast but he lacks good line and length, Ireland has improved a lot since he joined English club and to me Rainsford is the kind of a bowler who has everything pace, line and length but he isnt consistent. If we continue playing these guys in domestic cricket, odis and 20-20 they can we really good fast bowlers. We already have Price and Cremer as wicket takers followed by dot bowl players like Prosper and Lamb. If Sean Ervine returns, then we would have one more bowling option. we also have Blignaut and Chigumbura.. For me the future of Zim Cricket is bright.
Now we have a decent bowling attack led by good fast bowler and spinners, We have found good openers in batting line up..Hammie and Taylor are consistent and not to forget we have real powerful middle order now probably better than we had just after Flower left. I would love to see Sean Ervine, Williams and Ireland in the team which would make the team really strong. Think about Coventry, Williams, ERvine bros and Taibu in middle order followed by Blignaut, Chigumbura and Lamb, it will be hard for any team to wrap us up below 200 hehe. I love Zim as they always are capable of producing upsets to bigger teams especially India has been a victim of Zim cricket. Bangladesh and WI are good sides, but with this strong Zim team I am sure they will have a hard time especially if we play in Zim or subcontinent. Cheers people Zim Cricket is back now!

Ya i couldnt agree more with you. When he left in 2007 he had very little pace and his wing had completly disappeared that he had in 2005/06. But now he's a much improved bowler. From bowling 77-80mph, he's increased that to 83-86 mph. He's a very talented bowler, and somebody we could have back in our set up.
Kyle Jarvis will learn. He's the perfect example of a young, raw fast bowler. He's got very little control, but what he does have is pace and Bounce. Since Heath Streak or maybe Travis Friend we've not had a genuine pace bowler who hits the deck hard. With a little bit of help from Heath Streak, he's a star in the making.
