Zim 5 to Watch: Season 2010-11

Thought of opening this thread before the season starts, but could not. Who do we think would (or, who do we want to) do well this season, domestically, as well as internationally?

Let us list 5 people from across the franchises, by excluding the established national team names. (For eg., no Hamilton, BRM, Elton, Tatenda, Pricey, Cremer, etc.)

Here are the 5 people I would watch this season:

1. Chamu Chibhabha - As a batsman, this must be a make or break season for him, as competition mounts.
2. Craig Ervine - Hopefully he would continue to pile on the runs to become one of the forces to reckon with on our return to Tests.
3. Regis Chakabva - The guy exudes confidence. He must treat this as his breakthrough year, and make the task of national selectors more painful.
4. Tendai Chatara - The new fast bowling sensation, hope he lives up to the billing and gets ready to wreak havoc on Test arena.
5. Keegan Meth - How would Streak define his role? Can the swing bowler raise higher to become a dependable all rounder to stake a claim in the national side?

I would replace Chibhaba with Panyangare as the Most anticipated player for me to see what he has still got.

Great Thread Crimson Avenger, I was thinking of doing the same thing ;)

The 5 players that I'd like to see do well this season are:

Kyle Jarvis: Since he made his debut against Bangladesh I've been very impressed with his progress. He's tall, fit, muscular and has all the attributes to become one of our most dependable and quickest fast bowlers for the future.

Tendai Chitara : Like Kyle Jarvis he excites me when he bowls. Zimbabwe over the past three or four years have experienced a drought of fast bowlers, but since the emergence of this young man things look much much brighter. We have a stable battery of fast bowlers now, (A good six that i can think of) but not many of them can bowl at the pace of the 20 year old Chitara. He has bounce, nip and through Heath Streak will develop his control. Hopefully, in years to come, he and Kyle Jarvis could make a potent new ball paring in both test match cricket, and ODI cricket :D

Craig Ervine: before he made his debut in the tri series, I'd never seen him bat, though I'd heard that he batted very much in the way his older brother bats. His debut innings proved that the rumours were indeed correct. He has the ideal technique and temperament to succeed greatly at test cricket, and hopefully he can cement a spot in the ODI setup through scoring some more heavy runs this season.

Shingrai Mazakadza: Another very exciting quick bowler who has the potential to be a world beater, but perhaps lacks the control at the moment. Hopefully he can give the selectors a headache as to which fast bowler they'd like in the next ODI squad :D

Keegan Meth: I'm a big big fan of Keegan Meth. I've personally seen him bowl the nets at Harare last season, and he looked sharp. He'll never be in the same pace bracket as Jarvis or Rainsford or Chitara etc, but he has a lovely away swingers action, and can still bowl at a brick pace. His batting has just as much potential. Maybe he wouldn't suite test cricket, but he has T20 and ODI written all over him. Get him in Alistair Campbell, he's a serious talent !

my top 5 would be

1. Kyle Jarvis:has so much potential with raw pace and a muscley build could be the future.
2.T.Chetara:young cricketer of the year , has good pace and bowls a great outswinger , Jarvis and him could be a nasty opening bowling pair.
3.C.Ervine:Has the most talent out of anyone in the country with the bat and if he keeps his consistency going out first class level could prove to be the solid rock we need at test level
4.K.Meth:i gotta agree with sloandog on this one. He needs to be in our ODI and T20 teams because he can bowl sharp pace with movement yet he can smash a ball around the park, he has the world of ability and campbell needs to put him in the national set up especially at the age of 22 he could be a dangerous lower order player with the likes of Bligz, chigumbura,Coventry changing a game with both bat and ball.He is one of my favourites and so talented.
5R. Chakabva:He is a real match winner and i believe is the best option behind taibu, if he scores runs consistenly and keeps well will be a real headache for the selectors , i believe could be a our T20 keeper because of his ability to rotate the strike yet belt runs when needed.

Others to watch are S.Masakadza,M.Waller,S.Williams,S.Marilliar,T.Maruma,Mushangwe and Pynangra

Ervine really needs to prove he is more than just a flash in the pan and can be a consistent performer. He has started the season poorly although he has done okay over the last few months. Ervine has the potential to be as good a player as his brother (let's hope he does not do the same Judas turn if he does achieve such heights). I just hope he realises that potential. Too many people here think he has already.
