Carrying players

Post by Maweni »

There are some players the team is carrying-if not replaced, we might end up paying for them!
1) Craig Ervine-He's just not performed or looked comfortable, even in the Test when he got 30 something, he got there through edges and 1 good shot. Regis' more solid as a batsman and Malcolm Waller might even give you a few overs of spin if they're so insistent of playing 4 bowlers.
2) Elton Chigumbura-Bowls with no real venom and doesn't bat anywhere near as well as he should to justify inclusion as an "all-rounder". Meth would get more wickets and at least the same number of ducks and single figure scores, and even Jarvis might get a lot more wickets-we could have bowled out Bangladesh for less than a hundred today had we had a decent third seamer.
Surely these two have had their chance and not performed well enough to justify their inclusion. It's not about having players who are okay-its about putting out the best team possible. What's the point of competition for places if you don't drop those who fail?

I want Ervine to stay just for this series, and see if he can pull it around. If not, I'd like to see Waller come in for him.
As for Chigs, it's a difficult one, i reckon Campbell will also use him for the rest of the ODI series, and then if he fails use Meth and give him a fair crack...

Are we talking ODI or Test?

Regardless of what happens in this ODI series, I think there is a very strong case for an unchanged Test lineup against Pakistan. Chigumbura bowled pretty well in the Test match and Ervine did enough in the second innings in my opinion... he actually has the highest Test average in the team of 41.00 thanks to his not out.

The only reason to drop Ervine is if you want to lose.

A golden duck is certainly a winning contribution......for the opposition.
A talented batsman but a modest, hardworking character, Stuart Matsikenyeri is the third of three school friends from Churchill Boys High School, Harare to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket. - Cricinfo.

His mindgames in the field were the undoing of the Bangladeshi batsmen.

Eugene please, we're being serious.

Test wise they should keep their jerseys, but for these ODIs...what's the purpose of having competition for places if you don't reward those who do well and drop those that consistently fail?

I dont think Ervine has failed I actually think when he is in form his fluency is only beaten by Vusi. Cant wait for him to gain some form so that all haterz can eat their words. Give him time. Dropping them is not the answer, it will only damage his confidence, which will take some time to return. We won the match people, what more do we want? PS. Craig Ervine has the highest Test, First Class, List A and ODI averages in the team what more do you want. He will come good trust me

Now this is the voice of reason this forum needs. Why is it that Hamilton Masakadza could play like crap for 9 months or so and then everyone be outraged when he was dropped based on form yet Ervine not be afforded the same leeway? There is no point sending him back to domestic cricket, he is not at the beginning of his career so he doesn't need the experience of it. If he were to go back to domestic cricket he would be a 'man among boys' and wouldn't learn anything.
