[Match Thread] Zimbabwe Select XI vs Australia A, Tour Match

Post by jaybro »

Looks like an interesting squad no players who didnt make the ODI squad so I guess it's a cost saving squad ?? Surely Shingi would still be in the test team ??

No Sean Williams ( Hopefully he hasn't shot off again )

No Cremer !!! Guess they just want to see how Mushangwe goes ??

Hopefully Chinouya gets a run Im curious to see how he goes ....

Taylor wicketkeeping is the dead give away that this wouldn't be a likely Test team

Apparently, Utseya and Williams have been "rested": http://www.theindependent.co.zw/2013/07 ... sies-test/
The hosts will field the core of the team that is expected to play in the One-Day International series against India next week.

Prosper Utseya and Sean Williams two of Zimbabwe’s key players have both been rested in the three day-match as selectors give Mike Chinouya and Tymcen Maruma.

National selectors chairman Givemore Makoni said that Zimbabwe will be taking the three-day match as preparation for the India series.

“We are treating the three-day match against Australia “A” seriously, we have selected the team that is likely to play in the first ODI but we have rested Utseya and Williams,” said Makoni. “We want to see what the other guys can do; we know what Utseya and Williams have to offer so we have excluded them for this match.”

There is no place in the team for spinner Graeme Cremer while Natsai Mushangwe has been included.

Tendai Chatara has been preferred ahead of Brian Vitori who is the 12th man while Kyle Jarvis has also been included.

The Australians have travelled with a strong squad that includes David Warner who is in the Ashes squad, but has been released to go out and get some runs before he rejoins the rest of the squad in the UK.

Aaron Finch will captain the Australian side while Pat Cummings, Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh and Tim Paine are also in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe XI: Raza Butt, Vusi Sibanda, Hamilton Masakadza, Brendan Taylor (c), Malcolm Waller, Tymcen Maruma, Elton Chigumbura, Natsai Mushangwe, Mike Chinouya, Tendai Chatara, and Kyle Jarvis. 12th man, Brian Vitori

Australia “A”: Aaron Finch (c), Alex Doolan, Pat Cummings, Josh Hazlewood, Nic Madison, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine, Chadd Sayers, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Fawad Ahmed, Moises Henriques, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Gurinder Sandhu and David Warner.

Hopefully Wiliams is included in the 1st ODI not sure why they need a "Rest" since they haven't played in over a month ....

Surely after Williams' strong ODI series against BD he would be in consideration for a Test spot in the Middle order since niether waller or Chigs set the world on fire ......

Would have thought this would be a good chance to see how Williams plays in the longer format against quality oppisition .....

I agree with this.

Cannot see the point in resting him TBH.

I'm not sure what Williams and Utseya are being rested from? Did they have a large dinner last night?

Aus A are fighting back. They bat pretty deep with Paine at seven, so we will need to get regular wickets. :)

Couldn't ask for a better start really. 3/39 early on, 4/108 is still a pretty bad position for Australia A to be in.

Jarvis went for a few early on in his spell but he was consistently taking wickets, which is exactly what you want from your strike bowler. And he pegged the economy rate back later in his spell with a very respectable 3/28 at 3.50 by lunch. Zimbabwe is very lucky to have Kyle Jarvis...

It would be great if the remaining six wickets fall today. It's a shame it's only a three day match... no matter how well either team plays the game is almost destined to be a draw.
