Brandan Taylor

Brendan Taylor seems to be a shadow of the same batsman he used to be before captaining the side and keeping wicket. Zim does not have that much depth when it comes to wicketkipper batsmen and the retirement of Taibu is clearly showing at the moment. Regis Chakabva who was tipped to be the next glovesman has a mere avarage of 15.62 after 17 ODIs and that points only to the fact that he does not deserve a place in the side despite being tried in the top and middle order. Is Brandan Taylor not getting overwhelmed with his duties at the moment and what are Zims alternatives to reducing his burden.

Taylor has flourished since assuming the captaincy, averaging 41.55 in ODIs, 54.28 in Tests...

Its not the captancy i'm worried about BRM. Its the wicket keeping. Honestly he is playing three roles in limited overs at the moment and in the last couple of tours, there has been some poor innings.

Your right mate since he took the gloves in the West Indies he hasn't past 50

But who do u bring in Regis and Mutumbami not suited to ODI's

Taibu out of the picture, Choppa in Holland not sure if he is coming back and Fozzie Mutizwa is of the radar big time plus apparently he isn't a good keeper ???

You could probably sacrifice Waller for Regis ATM since Waller isn't making runs anyways but I still don't see Regis being suited to batting @6 in ODI's

Choppa would be nice coming in @ 6 for a dash wouldn't he

How good is Choppa's keeping? He only took up the gloves not long ago. Is it good enough for him to get a run in the side based on his keeping alone?

I'm not sure what the problem is with Taylor. Perhaps it's the captaining more than the keeping that's affecting his batting or he's simply in a form slump

Vermeulen can keep.

Is Ryan Butterworth still around? He can keep too. Tino Mawoyo stopped keeping, so that is not an option. There is no reason why Mutumbami should'nt get a go. We have not been able to expose Kasuza and Sauramba to quality opposition as well.

I don't think the roles of batsman, wicketkeeper and captain clash all that much. I agree it does bring certain pressures with it, but its all about how you manage that pressure. Someone like Mahendra Dhoni has managed all three roles pretty well, his batting average in matches that he is the wicketkeeper captain is a staggering 56.10. Not to mention his captaincy record, which is for all to see. His counterpart in the world cup final, Kumar Sangakkara averaged 47 as wicketkeeper captain. So it all depends on how you manage the pressures the three roles bring with them. Once Taylor gets more experienced at it he will start managing his roles far better. I feel its about focusing on the role at hand, when you're batting don't think about your captaincy or wicketkeeping and similarly when keeping, forget everything else when the delivery is being bowled. When neither of these is going on, think as a captain. Its all about role management and keeping an uncluttered mind.

I thought Choppa has always kept ????

I know he hasn't kept full time but I thought he has always been a keeper

I know it's been said before but Taibu would be so useful right now

I'm a big fan of BRMT but he is not at the same level of MS Dhoni or Kumar Sangakara

I think he can handle the captaincy and bat at a high standard but it would be better for him and the team to have another keeper ...... But ATM there are no better options
