[Match Thread] Zimbabwe v Afghanistan 3rd ODI

Post by CrimsonAvenger »

OK, venturing into match thread creation again, on the back of encouraging result in the last game...

We must work on the combination of Chatara - Shingi - Panya in the absence of Vitori and give them game time to gel together. Also, time to introduce new spinners, Mushangwe and may be Nyumbu at the expense of a batsman? Williams went for runs in the last match, so we must have a backup specialist ready.

Promotion to Chakabva necessary to give him some game time. If not going for 5 bowlers, we can think of promoting Waller too.

May be even go out of comfort zone and bat first if we win the toss today?

Hope to see Mushangwe and Chatara take the new ball today, I dont know why our best bowler bowls 1st change ???

Also so happy to see Regis or Waller bat higher today butunless we tinker with our opening pair it might be hard, I can't see BRMT falling too far down the order since he hasn't made a 'big score' yet this series .....

Afghanistan win the toss and elect to field...this changes the dynamic a bit. Let's see what happens...

Zimbabwe ring the changes Regis out for Maruma ( BRMT to keep ), Panyangara out for Chatara, Utseya out for Mushangwe and Kamungozi replaces Tiripano so we have 2 quicks and 2 spinners plus the all rounders / part timers .....

I wonder if Elton will bowl today ??

They've gone with a team of: H Masakadza, Sikandar Raza, BRM Taylor*†, SC Williams, T Maruma, MN Waller, E Chigumbura, SW Masakadza, TL Chatara, T Kamungozi, N M'shangwe

Maruma, Kamungozi and M'shangwe come in.

Utseya was injured last match, Tiripano didn't convince, Vusi's been sent home, Panyangara wasn't as good as we'd expect. Not Sure what Chakabva has done wrong (not that I'm really a fan). Don't know why he wasn't replaced by Mutumbami if his keeping wasn't OK. Is Maruma the new batting Utseya :)

Let's see what these new boys can do.

You have feel sorry for Regis two games doesn't get a bat and he is out clearly the selectors are using a rotation policy here .......

This will be a good test to see how our openers deal with the early morning due on the wicket and see if we can keep wickets in hand and accelerate towards the end better than the Afghanis .....

5.5
Dawlat Zadran to H Masakadza, SIX
5.5
Dawlat Zadran to H Masakadza, 1 wide, wide balls called
5.5
Dawlat Zadran to H Masakadza, (no ball) FOUR, what a beautiful cover drive for 4 and no ball is called

12 runs off one legal delivery..not bad!

Good to see the openers play themselves in and begin to cash in once they are set. I wouldn't mind these two being greedy and batting through if they can. Need to make at least 280, probably more. Our Bowling has been below par so far in the series
