I've seen him bat in person, and he looks class. They have a fast bowler called Davies who has been clocked at 92Mph, and a wicket keeper in Raymond Van Schoor who is as good, if not better than most ODI wicket keepers in World Cricket, and a serious batter to boot.
It amazes me how a country that is 70% desert can build such a promising cricket side
Re: Namibia
I suppose as Zimbabwe showed when the game was really the preserve of the white community, you can build a very competitive team from a very small pool of players. Namibia, then should be at an advantage with the aforementioned stability and the fact that cricket there seems to be fairly multi-racial. I guess I'd call them my second team, so go Namibia (except against Zimbabwe!)
Re: Namibia
Quite an impressive development strategy too- trying to do all the things that happened via ignominy and racism in Zimbabwe in terms of bringing players of colour into the team, only without the racism and conflict- http://www.cricketnamibia.com/2011-07-25-15-56-32
Probably a good team to be playing regularly against given their proximity, we should be having lots of A-series etc with them, I feel there could be a lot of mutual benefit from doing so. Could well be the 12th or 13th test nation in a decade or 2 if they keep things on the right track, since at present you could probably say they are in a similar position to Zimbabwe in the 70s or 80s in terms of being involved in South African domestic cricket.

Re: Namibia
Ya I was thinking that. If they keep on developing the way the are, bringing batters through, spinners and more imprtantly bowlers with penetration, they have a bright future. And another thing I've noticed is the professionalism they play with. The kits are modern and are sponsored ....eeeeee I tell you what it's like looking at a blue Zimbabwe in the early 2000'szimfan93 wrote:Quite an impressive development strategy too- trying to do all the things that happened via ignominy and racism in Zimbabwe in terms of bringing players of colour into the team, only without the racism and conflict- http://www.cricketnamibia.com/2011-07-25-15-56-32

I must say, that just shows how the administrators are letting ZC down- Ireland, Namibia etc. all have sponsors on the kits, and yet ZC couldn't reach out to a single Zimbabwean business to get sponsorship. It does look kind of nice though, very old school. Do you think if we all chipped in a few dollars each and offered to pay for the embroidery we could get zimcricketforums.com on the shirts?

I think we could all chip in a few dollars and pay the salaries at this point.

Re: Namibia
In the 2003 CWC Namibia were awful. Ok they had a few flash in the pans but overall they weren't good. I'd like to see how they perform in the next edition for sure
