I always had more doubts about Regis' temperament and shot selection than his technique. I believe his best knocks have come in back to the wall situations where he doesn't have to worry about scoring runs. Undecidedness between defense and attack has often been his downfall.

No ones addressed this.
What about the rule of extending half an hour, of a result is possible on the final day?
I don't think it works like that - that rule applies to the days before the 5th when a result is possible... See http://static.espncricinfo.com/db/ABOUT ... TIONS.html

Minimum Overs in the Day in Test Matches
Play shall continue on each day until the completion of a minimum number of overs or until the scheduled or re-scheduled cessation time, whichever is the later.

The minimum number of overs to be completed, unless an innings ends or an interruption occurs shall be:

on days other than the last day - a minimum of 90 overs (or a minimum of 15 overs per hour)

on the last day - a minimum of 75 overs (or 15 overs per hour) for playing time other than the last hour when Clause (e) below shall apply.

Additional Hour: Subject to weather and light, except in the last hour of the match, in the event of play being suspended for any reason other than normal intervals, the playing time on that day shall be extended by the amount of time lost up to a maximum of one hour. In these circumstances, the minimum number of overs to be bowled shall be in accordance with the provisions of this clause i.e. a minimum of 15 overs per hour and the cessation time shall be rescheduled accordingly.

E: Law 16.6, 16.7 and 16.8 will apply except that a minimum of 15 (six ball) overs shall be bowled in the last hour and all calculations with regard to suspensions of play or the start of a new innings shall be based on one over for each full 4 minutes (refer (i) below). If, however, at any time after 30 minutes of the last hour have elapsed both Captains (the batsmen at the wicket may act for their Captain) accept that there is no prospect of a result to the match, they may agree to cease play at that time.

Yea he's no longer in the reckoning, at all. He simply can't be.

On a better note, this is serious grit from the lads! Bit of the old Zimbabwe shining through. Well batted Regis, match saving knock and possible career saving innings. Just really needs to kick on with this now and make his next test innings count, when ever that may be.

Well done Regis! Did what Waller couldn't do.
Yep. If this was Waller making 50 we'd probably be saying he's bought himself time and Chakabva's out of the team. But now we're saying Waller's Test career is finished, and Chakabva has bought himself some time.

And I think he has now. He's knuckled down when he really needed to. He's demonstrating what we knew he was capable of at Test level (but haven't seen for a few years).

RRR 6.1. Short of a capitulation epic even by Zimbabwe standards, it's getting pretty safe now.

Waller needs to have a chat with Chakabva on how to save a Test Career. Great effort from Chakabva so for.
