Looks like Regis is going to have to open the batting.

Regis
Hammy
Ervine
Taylor
Burl
Raza
Moor
Cremer
Jarvis
Chatara
Blessing/Mpofu
No disrespect zimfan1...
Sometimes I feel you guys are out to sabotage Zimbabwe as long as some favourites get to play. Some of the comments and suggestions don't make cricketing sense.

I don't get why you would want to pick Burl ahead of a Chamu/Mire batting 7 plus providing a bowling option. Their kind of bowling in these conditions can prove to be quite dangerous.

If you're going to sacrifice Regis as an opener and stick in a makeshift keeper, at least provide a proper bowling option. It's quite obvious that ZIM won't bowl SA out, while SA won't need more than 120 overs to deal with ZIM over two innings. 196 overs over 2 days is 40 overs each between Raza, Cremer, Jarvis, Mpofu and Chatara. That's scary!!!

Do you honestly think Jarvis is in a condition to bowl more than 15 overs? Throw in the fitness concerns about Chatara and do you think he can do 20 overs a day?

I know Mpofu can be stingy (let's at least expect Streak - for all his potential - not to be stupid enough to throw in Blessing). But imagine what will the Proteas do with 40 overs each from Cremer and Raza???

Regis, Moor, Craig and Taylor don't bowl. Cremer and Streak clearly not keen on using Hami. Burl's bowling is about as good as Taylor's. That's six players out of the equation. Raza no matter what you want to argue is nowhere near remotely good enough to be rolling a ball in the direction of the class of Elgar, Faf, AB, Amla and QdK!!! So what's the strategy? Bowl Cremer, Jarvis, Mpofu and Chatara till they break??? Not even Bangladesh was that silly.

Common sense says Mire/Chamu must play!!!

Zimbabwe now 166/6 after 59 overs.

Hami on to 79!

Now joined by Regis.

All six wickets taken by players who have never played for the Proteas, and probably never will unless something very drastic happens.

Pathetic from Streak and Zimbabwe. Ebarassing. Worse than how Mangongo's u19s are doing!

You make a decent point. Perhaps Mire gets a reprieve and Burl may have to wait for another chance.

Cohen gets Hami for an extremely well played 79 against a quality SA Invitation XI attack. Wish I could have watched it. Ricardo caught him out so he'll be batting.

Wow, even the batting will be quite ruthless. Ricardo, du Plooy, Hamza and Smuts to go with Bavuma and AB. Yoh! CSA didn't respect ZIM enough to give them Valli, Muthusamy and Christensen like ZIM A and BD, but Bavuma and AB make up for it. Still top bats.

ZIM now 166/7 after 60 overs. Chibhabha joins Regis. Not sure if that was part of the plan. 9 batsmen! How many runs will they get against such opposition?

This Cohen guy ripped through BD as well...took 5 for barely any. Interestingly enough BD posted 300 and declared with our most technically correct batsman Mushy and Mominul top scoring - Mominul went on to top score for the series as a whole in the Tests although I think Liton Das had the highest aggregate.

Crazy the amount of overs von Berg has bowled. Twice as much as the next bowler! He's been decent in the Sunfoil Series and did well against the Bangladeshis. My conspiracy as they push him for a fifer in one of these innings and he'll be deputising Keshav Maharaj. Only explanation for so many overs! Leie won't like that.

Von Burg took 5 for 173 against Bangladesh which is pretty decent on those tracks against a team that plays spin well. But Cohen did the damage against us by taking 5 for 61.

True.

Except that was a day match in flat Benoni. ZIM on the other hand are playing under lights in Paarl - just 30 minutes away from where Philander bowled AUS out for 47 within 18 overs  . BD played Tests even more flatter wickets and we all know what happened there

I remember those SvB wickets. They were largely due to poor shot selection. I hope that's the case with Zimbabwe too. Particularly Raza and Taylor. Burl was probably bogged down and maturity let him down(would Hami have done enough to talk some sense into him and try and keep him clam so as not to waste his start? I doubt it if he feels abused himself and that other players deserved that spot more)

Piedt, Phangiso, Shamsi and Leie are ahead of him in the pecking order behind Maharaj. He's not that good. But if you rate Cremer highly then in fairness we'd have to say ZIM(and BD) feel to quite some talent. ;)

I reckon Mire should open so that the Selectors see that its a shitty plan. Zhuwao cldnt hv done any worse. Pathetic showing from zim. dont know why we expected any thing different

Pathetic from Streak and Taibu. They are the selectors and they should be sacked for this!

Philander will have a new ball for crying out loud. How long will Craig, BT and Raza last against him soon after Mire goes. And if Hami fails to repeat his heroics?

I did say that this did not deserve to be a Boxing Day Test.

At the very least I thought that somehow back when it was announced, that the likes of Vusi, Panyangara and Mawoyo would be part of this.

ZIm have Blessing and Burl instead, plus Mire up top. Surely heads must roll. This is desrespectful to South African cricket.

After the loss of the Global T20 League, and India messing us around about their tour dates, ZIM really should have sent a stronger team.

Perhaps other brave decisions like making Raza open and ignoring to pick a spinner because lets face it Cremer will be thumped by these guys and there's no other spin option good enough.

Raza
Regis
Hami
Craig
Vusi
BT(c)
Moor(wk)
Shingi
Panyangara
Jarvis
Chatara
