I just don’t see the need for foreign coaches. Firstly their roles are usually more organizational and man management, and secondly we have Zimbabweans with skills. We can send our people for refresher stints to places that supposedly are at the cutting edge of cricket if that’s necessary.
We’ve had people here with serious pedigrees and they’ve proven there’s no magic formula. Our home grown coaches have been successful world wide, yet they’ve been discarded or moved on for historical reasons and because of personality clashes with people who know the square root of fekk all. It’s been because there’s divisions and they’re trying to appoint someone that has respect from however many camps there happen to be at any one time, which is pathetic. They appointed someone like Ntini because they thought he’d be inspirational to our (black) bowlers, ffs we need to move on from that, and I think we probably are. Don’t forget if there’s division in the rank and file there’s no attention being paid to what’s going on behind closed boardroom doors- now where have we seen this divide and rule tactic before?
We also have some inherently lazy individuals who were perhaps hoping Ntini had juju, it must have been a shock to discover that he was an advocate of hard work.
Also CZ’s last minute inclusion and the various ratios that have always been a bone of contention is proof of meddling from people who know diddly.
There will always be dissenters amongst us armchair warriors as to tactical decisions made by the coaches. That’s why we’re here and what makes cricket such a great sport. Bear in mind our current brains trust is Streak, Klusener, Cremer, Taylor and possibly a couple of others, there’s some serious knowledge and experience there. We don’t have the benefit of hindsight as to how a different batting or bowling line up may have fared, nor are we privy to all the other information that we are not aware of that made them arrive at those decisions. That’s another fault, by the way, there’s zero PR from any of them. I think they have to get board clearance to take a dump, such is the paranoia from ZC about any criticism. If anyone tries to extract information from anyone involved you just get a rolling of the eyes and a shrugging of the shoulders because they know there’s repurcussions about leaking information. It’s like the KGB instead of a sports organization with real obligations to its many players and supporters.
There’s no time like now to demand change.

Re: Should Streak resign?
Gary Brent as head coach, Heath Streak the bowling coach, Robin Brown the batting coach.
Re: Should Streak resign?
You’re missing the point
I’m advocating sweeping changes administratively, you’re talking about our coaching structures.
In fairness I don’t know Klusener. You don’t have to be the most technically correct batsman with a pedigree across all formats to be a quality batting coach, you probably don’t even have to have played international cricket. Those that can, do- those that can’t, teach.
I really like all the Brents, Kevin James, Brown, Flower, Streak etc. They’re old school patriotic people with Zim’s cricketing interests at heart.
I’m not deliberately leaving out black guys, I don’t really know too many of them. I do know that when some of these guys headed up franchises they had the respect of most of the players though, that must account for a lot, and the same cannot be said for what’s happening now.
I even think there’s room for Andy Flower in our new dispensation, he’s a cult figure here and would tick all the boxes. I’d like to see him driving the entire bus, and damn, he’d kick arse and take names and extend us credibility, plausibility and a lifeline. No harm in dreaming!

Has Flower been back to Zimbabwe since 2003 at all?

+1
Sounds reasonable, although I don't know if Streak would agree to take a step back and work under Brent. It might be better to make a fresh start and let GB make his own choices.sloandog wrote:Gary Brent as head coach, Heath Streak the bowling coach, Robin Brown the batting coach.

Re: Should Streak resign?
Is it really necessary to sack anyone other than those who 'run' ZC? maybe if Zim had a strange little thing like a domestic season the players might have been in a position to play with some confidence, players like Carl Mumba, Wellington Masakadza and Basher Chapungu would also have had the chance to put themselves into contention
I have to say that I've never had any time for Zhuwao, but once he'd shown that he could hit big on a good day he's then dropped for the one game that he could have slaughtered the opposition from the first ball, the one game that Zim needed to show that they have the right to play alongside the big boys and they make a complete and utter fuck of the whole opportunity, that one decision demands an explanation if nothing else does
It'll be interesting to see how many of these players walk away now, also how many youngsters that were considering a ZC future now don't stay, there really is a possibility that Zim will be struggling to stay at the same level as UAE and future big games will be against Nepal and Hong Kong
This UAE result really must be the lowest point that even Zim have fallen to, there aren't enough swear words to describe yesterdays abortion of a performance

I personally dont think Streak should resign. I also think if we have Any flower it will be great for our team
Re: Should Streak resign?
Surely a team like the UAE are the sort of opposition Zhuwao would have had done well against? Zhuwao is no good against the big boys, but he could have come out yesterday and bludgeoned a quick 30 or 40 at the top.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes
Re: Should Streak resign?
Yes the selection and subsequent benching of CZ really smacks of some internal strife between management and
Selectors. I use that term loosely because I’m not sure anyone really knows who they are- is it just Streak and Taibu? How is it possible for Taibu to be the Convenor when he’s hardly been present, probably hasn’t seen most of the players in the so-called domestic league, was at extreme loggerheads with ZC and now is their poster-boy?
It just doesn’t make sense. Certainly earlier on he was getting information from whoever and then rubber-stamping selections. Was he here for these qualifiers? If you want to pick a good side you need some experienced and knowledgeable selectors and possibly a convenor in the event of a stand-off and not with a right of veto. These guys need to be independent of any influence or veto from the board and just need to possibly confer with the captain.
Right here we have a huge problem.
