I have heard that rumour too. Either way I think the new captain should be from PJ and Mire's generation or younger. Its time we start having a vision past the older guys. We need to have our mind on the 2020 and 2021 t20 world cups as well as the 2023 ODI world cup. I have my doubts that these senior guys will still be committed to the cause by then so we might as well start phasing them out. We have nothing to lose at this point anyway.

I heard on Dean's show they were describing how Hami would have been the preferred option but apparently there have been moments recently where Tari showed more leadership than Hami. Apparently Hami just doesnt have it in him. They were also saying Elton wasnt liked as a captain because he blamed everybody but himself when things wemt wrong.

Well he wouldn’t be the youngest captain ever, but absolutely the most inexperienced by a light year, he hasn’t even established himself in the team and may not make it himself as a batsman in his own right.
Nothing surprises me with ZC. A part of me wants this to end so I can stop tormenting myself.

If it's true, it is absolutely ridiculous to make Musakanda the captain. He can do without any extra pressure at this point so that he can settle himself into the playing XI first. He is yet to reach a 3 figure score in any format even domestically. Massive unnecessary pressure which could even kill a career if it goes wrong. Hope it comes good though, if he is given the responsibility.

Musakanda as captain is madness. Yes we need to blood younger players, but you can't weigh them down with captaincy. We have effectively gone nowhere since the 2003 exodus, we are back in the same position again.

on PJ, i think you're right, i have always thought he is a natural leader, you can tell by the way he speaks about the game that he he knows it and is willing to learn. the problem now is he has gone through a run drought and like Musakanda, his spot in the XI is not secure. 'supposedly' the captaincy is offered to him, how will it impact on his performance?

Or maybe they should just name an interim captain until they have figured themselves out. Personally I am for PJ as much as I have criticised his performances I know he is a natural leader and that might actually make him better.

I just googled that the ODI league starts in 2020 according to wikipedia. Hami will be 36 and Waller 35. BT Craig and Raza 34. Williams and Craig 33. There are 2 t20 world cups before the 2023 ODI world cup.

I think Hami and Waller should be t20 specialists only from now on and we have to push for Mire PJ Tari and Burl to feature regularly in ODIs from now on. This is why a young ODI captain for me will be a symbolic shift.

If things stabilize then we need to sit down with the senior guys and ask them what their plans are and phase them out accordingly. I doubt any of those guys will tolerate anymore bullshit and stick around until 2023.

The rising stars programme needs to be revived in some form ASAP. Imagine a team like this in 2023

Chari
Pj
Burl
Tari
Murray
Roche
Mire
Mavuta
Blessing
Chatara/Mumba
Jarvis/Ngarava

This is probably the reality we are facing as these guys are all under 30. We have to look at that list and think are we going to get anywhere with a team like that. If not then we need to change something because BT and co are going soon

Gentlemen- all that RS team did this year was show up the diabolical state of our FC cricket. Saying how fantastic it was is burying your heads in the sand. The initiative was created because Taibu and Co recognized we can’t run a proper academy in the entire country. I’m not knocking it, it gave youngsters the opportunity to progress and to see what’s out there, so from that perspective it was good.
Let’s think about that for a second- we don’t have an academy in the whole country!!! A place where there are nets and a sign at the gate is not an academy.
If ICC were really interested in saving us (they’re not, they’re praying we die and go away) they would insist we have systems in place throughout the age groups because only that guarantees that we might one day become competitive again. We perhaps have one kid in the whole country that would make a county age group side as a batsman. I wish I could impress upon you the harsh stark reality that we will not see a proper batsman come out of our system again. We don’t have one batsman outside of BT that would make a County side. The next u19 side will not beat a good school side in England, I will bet my life on it. That side on the post above would finish in the bottom half of a premier club division in England.
It’s no longer just a case of sorting the admin out, we don’t have the players, RS (who are a very ordinary side) have shown up what we have to choose from.

So truthfully we are further behind than where we were in 2003. Taylor, Chigumbura, Utseya, Rainsford were all better than the young players we have coming through now.
