Wes is the leading wicket taker in the history of the U19 World Cup. And bowling is only his secondary discipline......eugene wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 2:41 pmWhat are we basing this optimism on? These you guys aren't playing a lot of cricket against quality opposition.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 12:47 amTo the contrary I think the future is exceptionally bright. The young generation coming through is the most talented we've had for many many years. But they are very young still and the next couple of years 'transition' period might be tough at times.eugene wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 11:18 pmThis match is really highlighting the lack of talent we have once you remove the experienced players like Williams, Ervine, Raza, Cremer, and Jarvis from the equation. The future is not bright, particularly given the inability to keep hold of our most talented youngsters, black or white.
Hard not to feel very positive about the youngsters coming through - Madhevere, Shumba, Marumani, Myers, Bawa etc (and seemingly all committed to ZC).
Shumba looks as comfortable as anyone in the Logan Cup despite being 20. A very solid and comfortable debut first innings in this Test - only out because of a silly run out incident.
Marumani dominating the domestic T20 at the age of 19 and a good debut knock against Pakistan last week.
Plenty of people in the game locally rate Myers as high as Wes. Hasn't quite found his form yet though.
Bawa's scores are unreal. He's STILL only 17.
Have watched this batch in person coming through the age groups and playing schools cricket. The raw talent they possess as batsmen is greater than any Zim generation for quite a while.
The problem of course will be coaching and management and ZC being ZC. There's every chance ZC will ruin them, push them out, overwork them, not support them etc etc. We've seen it before. Fingers crossed they get decent support, coaching and management to fulfil their talent. ZC at least seems relatively stable and decent by their standards at the moment.
If you can't even be optimistic about this bunch of youngsters then you'll never be optimistic about anything in Zimbabwean cricket tbh.

Is the forecast for rain tomorrow, I wouldn't mind a day getting washed off and then Zimbos trying to dig in for a draw.

Bangladesh players are also "doing Ramadan"...SL bowlers couldn't get them out either in the first Test.zimlover wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 1:09 pmThese guys are doing Ramadan during this test and series, they basically played without eating anything, and we still can’t get them out.
I guess one way of getting under their skin is to Call Mohamed the Prophet a peodophile in their face and see what happens.

Would Don be a bad number 6 for the next test? Considering all the injuries, if nobody recovers and Prince is out injured I wouldn’t mind Tari opening, Don at 6 and Nyauchi in the tail. Long tail I know but we will lose anyway. Might as well try new things

Don is the typical Zimbabwe cricketer of the 90s. Fighting tooth and nail and punching way above his potential. It would be hard to find ONE guy anywhere in the cricketing fraternity who hates him.
