Because its happened once (before 1965) and has been re-introduced in 2021. Texas recently signed SB 1 into law which puts a lot of needless restrictions on voting targetting black, hispanic, and asian voters because demographic change is eroding the republican advantage in traditionally conservative places like Texas and Georgia (GA has already "gone" blue).

Re: Afghanistan Cricket / Taliban
The ICC will be ruling on Afghanistan in November.
My gut feel is they will not touch Afghanistan's Test status or full membership as ACB clearly has nothing to do with the Taliban. Plus AFG is the ICC's sole success story. But they won't penalize individual teams from refusing to play Afghanistan.
Eventually this will mean Afghanistan will have a marked reduction in terms of the fixtures they have.

If they don't / can't field a women's team then they have to be stripped off their test status. ACB cannot field a women's team without taliban allowing them to do so. If ICC feels this is govt intervention then they might as well suspend Afghanistan.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 6:49 amThe ICC will be ruling on Afghanistan in November.

They were quick to do that to Zimbabwe. The reason why Zimbos are not playing the WC next month.

They've had Test status for over 4 years. Remind me when they have ever fielded women's team in that time?sam_ahm wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 6:12 pm

Both the chairman and now the CEO of Afghanistan cricket board has been appointed by their current government without any transparent process or election.
How is this not government interference? The ICC is just blind.

Yep. Whilst not letting the women play is absolutely nothing new in the ACB, and would have just led to them being Associate members going forward (not suspended).......
.....This forced appointment of certain people to management positions is very clearly government interference. Zimbabwe got suspended for less.
If the ICC have any dignity and accountability the suspension would be immediate and they’d be booted out of the T20WC. But it’s the ICC, so.....

Absolutely. If they are consistent, what they did to Zim must happen to AFG.

Re: Afghanistan Cricket / Taliban
If I understand it correctly, CEO is not an elected position in any company or organization. For the CEO to be appointed, doesn't seem inappropriate. I believe the Chairman is an elected office, but the current chair has already served in that position before the Taliban takeover. Also the cricinfo article seems to suggest he was "replaced" after Afghanistan's last place finish at the 2019 World Cup. So he wasn't removed democratically, but ZCF didn't seem to have a problem with that.
There's a world of difference between the ZC - who waste, misuse, and embezzle ICC funds - and the ACB which at least puts the money to better use. Purely from a business standpoint - capitalism! - the ACB is several fold more valuable to the ICC than ZC.
