Have you got a link to that article? Mapaure has got that completely wrong. Nothing I've read indicates that Ballance thought Pakistani was OK.
It's a bit weird, it's an abbreviation of Pakistan and it seems Pakistan with an i on the end is also a snag? I'm yet to understand what you call a person who hails from Pakistan without causing offence.
There's limited options- Pakistanish, Pakistanian, Pakistanilese.
Pakistani is totally fine, I'm sure.
Shortened to P.aki is not.
I only lived in the UK for 6 months or so and even I'm aware the latter term is completely unacceptable there. I'd be shocked if I ever heard anyone from the UK/UK based calling someone it. Ballance should know better.
It implicates a lot of people and 30 MP's and two mayors are calling for some type of parliamentary tribunal which is apparently free of further legal implications- their version of a Truth and Reconciliation Committee.
Rafiq is pursuing some sort of labour dispute so there's also a financial motive, there usually is. I'm not excusing how he was treated, but Ballance is one of many who had stuff to say.
^ Good point. If the club is 'institutionally racist' and this is going back years throughout Rafiq's career then it raises questions of everyone involved in the club at any level. People like Root and Bairstow won't come out of it looking good either. Although it's in the ECB's interests to protect them, whilst they will be happy to chuck Ballance under the bus....
I hope people are checking on Gary too. He's in the wrong here, absolutely. But he's had mental health struggles over the last few years since being dropped by England and going through this media trial can't be easy either.
Ballance has been indefinitely suspended from selection by the ECB and Yorkshire is also suspended of holding any further international cricket. If i where Yorkshire i would be (firstly not racist in the first place) getting the board to fall on their sword so fast (why they havent gone is almost South African levels of nepotism). The fans of Yorkshire who are probably the most passionate left on the county circuit are being punished so hard because of their club effectively letting them all down.
With regards to Ballance, Yorkshire should buy him out of his contract to try and win some points with the press, which would obviously leave him unemployed and without future prospects in England...
