The UAE is looking to out-invest the Indian billionaires by throwing bigger bundles of cash at big-hitting international batsmen-allrounders. A lot of cricketers are going to re-evaluate the benefits of playing 5 day cricket and/or playing for thier nations and simply commit to being global T20 mercenaries. If the USA decides that they want a piece of the action and have the money and corporate cash to burn, international cricket will become a glorified shopping display for global T20 teams
There is going to come a point where the world is truly over T20. Over saturation. Too many mercenary plastic soulless clubs that copy the IPL in meaningless competitions. Also with weird names.
Like what the fuck is a (Chennai) Super king?
That’s something a 4 yr old would say when he runs into his parents room wearing a costume with a cape.
.
I’d also be curious on the IPL viewership stats. I wonder if there’s a hype hangover.

I think we are stuck with this T20 format for a long time to come. With the super high population densities in the subcontinent, anything with a significant fan base or consumers will make you millions of $$$. So these Kulkata Knight Riders are going to be around for a while. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepalese T20 leagues are also blowing up, with enough $$ to attract top international coaches and players, so what was once a fad is morphing into the “main” cricket format.

I agree, I find it impossible to “support” a team made up of a bunch of (to be honest, mostly over-the-hill) cricketers who are just there for the money, with zero emotional investment in said teams. Is the mercenary playing for Mumbai Indians distraught when “his team” loses the IPL finals?? Is Dwayne Bravo committed to Chennai Super Kings, Sydney Sixers AND Tribago Knight Riders when he is a member of all three simultaneously?? I think if watching cricket to see sixes being hit on small grounds, with pyrotechnics and scantily clad cheerleaders is the “fan’s” cup of tea, the T20 it is. But if these people (global T20 mercs and fans) were to be honest, T20 is all sizzle without the steak.

SAVhas added yet another seamer (Oliver) into their team for the third test. Now they have six “batsmen” all with questionable temperament, form and abilities. You kind of wonder where the runs are going to come from.

They’ve relegated Jansen to 2nd change seam bowler after his devastating bowling last test..all to accomodate Oliver, who may not even be the same bowler he was pre-Kolpak

Olivier has lost a lot of pace. He was bowling mid to high 80's before he left, even touching 90mph on a few occasions. Looks like what happened to jarvis has happened to this guy too

They play so many games in the English season, and they don't give a shit about seamers, if you're prepared to run in all day then that's what you'll do. Especially a kolpak like Olivier, they want their money's worth. Plus you can get the same return on English pitches with less effort. In fact it might nip around more at 130 than it will at 140.
He's quite skiddy, bowls a mean accurate bouncer, right at your throat.

But I think if you spend a few years bowling within yourself it's extremely difficult to get back to bowling real quick again. The bones get weary.

Is this why english bats struggle against good quick seamers in the south you think?

Olivier should be bowling rockets. He's averaging 79mph and it just doesn't look good. The commentators, especially Pollock, sounds slightly worried at the lack of zip he's managed to get. When he left he was lethal. Those spitting deliveries just off a length were what threw the Pakistan side in 2018

Meanwhile, Marco Janson is validating my earlier points in the forum that he's the future of this bowling attack.
Morne Morkel has gone on record and said he's going to be a lot quicker than he ever was at his peak. At 6ft8 he's going to be a serious proposition for world batters

Markram is seriously not up to it. If RSA give Janneman a chance, they'll never ever look back.
