Ervine should not be dropped or anything. Its just that it was very poor captaincy
I'm not into this narrative that Ervine was responsible for the loss
Not purely responsible of course, but his poor captaincy was certainly one of the contributing factors. As it has been on numerous occasions over the past twelve months. Probably only about the 4th or 5th best captaincy option in the side.

Will be interesting to see how many T20s we have before the World Cup. I assume that Ervine, Regis and Williams to keep going until the 50 over world cup qualifiers.

The wicket keeping position is the big one, shame that PJ has made it clear that Ireland is his option and Zimbabwe is not. Personally I think it may be worth seeing if Marumani can keep in T20 cricket, at least give him the chance to see what he can do.
And Raza, he's a similar age.
They could keep going until they're 40 years old, who's replacing them? ZC could end up paying them good annual or 6 monthly contracts until someone else comes along that remotely looks like replacing them. It don't matter which of our usual blokes do well in domestic we've seen them all before and they will struggle.
When you see Chibhabha light it up with a fantastic 150 that almost nobody else can emulate at domestic level and then he struggles at international level and will probably no longer be considered then who've we got?

They'll definitely be in the mix until after the 50 over WC and well beyond that unless a youngster puts his hand up.

And ya Rajput trying to boot out the seniors last year was a joke - for a couple of reasons. Firstly they have earned the right to choose when they retire from formats imo. Not to be kicked out unceremoniously by some twat sitting in Mumbai. I think they will genuinely themselves feel now is the right time and be happy to sit out after this WC.

Secondly, this year - qualifying for this WC - was absolutely crucial. Getting rid of the seniors (4 at the time, as BT hadn't retired) at that moment would have been suicide and would have made Rajput's extremely mediocre failing team even worse. The only reason he actually wanted rid of them was because they publicly hated him and spoke up against him.

Now we've had a good run and the seniors have helped get us to this point (this WC has been way beyond our expectations), I think we are getting to the point where that rebuilding of the T20 team should be happening.

Ervine, Williams and Chakabva should absolutely remain central to our ODI and Test teams, hopefully for another couple of years. But all three of them are not natural T20 players and often struggle. Sacrificing a format should help their longevity in the longer formats too.

We are going to qualify automatically for 2024, so there's no stress there. Time to give Marumani, Munyonga and Madande plenty of game time in the T20's.

Raza should probably continue in all formats because he looks as youthful as ever. Have you seen that guy run?!?! Usually Asians understate their age....I'm starting to think he's overstating it  He looks and plays like a 25 year old

Maybe someone with more time can do it so we can compare the numbers, but there really seems to be no pathway from the U19s to the national side anymore.
I'm working on something here. Might need a few days.

Well we need to seriously up the number of domestic T20's we play and potentially get to Namibia and SA with an A side. Just dropping Mandande and Munyonga in the deep end ain't going to work. Marumani maybe.
I'd really like to see Brian Bennett and Matt Welch get a full season of club, NPL and then franchise. They've got big potential. Both of them looked at home against quality bowling in the U19 WC, which immediately tells you there's something to work with.

I know it depends on who finishes where but we will only qualify directly for 2024 (100% guaranteed) if we beat the Dutch on Wednesday.

Our domestic T20 needs to at the very very least be a double round robin. I've also long thought they could invite Namibia, Uganda and Kenya to send national/A sides to come and compete in the domestic T20. You would have 8 teams then and expose our guys to different/new players. Could still have it done within a couple of weeks if necessary. I suppose the problem is who pays for it.

There's a multi-format A tour to the Windies supposedly on the cards early next year.

Hopefully we see Matt Welch this season. Not sure of BB's whereabouts. Bawa has gone to uni.
