Marumani looks to be doing enough in all formats to be given a chance

I’d rather we try new names than guys who have failed at international level over many years. Zhuwao wasn’t good enough. K-long wasn’t good enough. Chibhabha wasn’t good enough.

None of them are bad cricketers but struggled with the step up.

The next generation may of course struggle too but at least give them a try.

Raza averaged 13 with a strike less of less than 100 in T20i until this year too. I think he has scored the same amount of runs this year as he had his whole T20i career. Things can change.

This and there aren’t enough players around to write off guys in their late 20s.

I’m not saying Kamunhukamwe is definitely the answer or that he’s a star waiting to emerge, but I can’t see many other players around of his mould ie attacking opener.

So like you say, Marumani is a shoe-in.

Now is the time to trust Madhevere, Shumba, Madande and Munyonga too - time to step up big time. Williams and Raza to remain in T20's, plus Ervine in ODIs. Thats pretty much the batting sorted. Burl too.

Other guys who can consistently hit boundaries, specifically looking at T20s here are people like Musekiwa, Muchawaya, Mayavo, Maunze and Mumba. I'm not saying they are necessarily ready or good enough though. Magodo looks a prospect. Campbell maybe if he keeps improving. There's quite a few guys to try.

I`d persevere. He`ll come good by the next wc I reckon. Talented batter and he bowls. Works hard according to SZ too. Perhaps wouldn't add into the main team at times but just being around the others would help I think.

Naturally i hope he comes back all guns blazing.

Our 20 20 and one day side needs recalibrating. Welch would be a perfect fit
