Come on Guys, for a team which rarely gets to play tests, and is half depleted it is a no brainer that a draw or a drawn series is much better than fighting and losing.
You all can disagree but the statement Zimbabwe are making here is that no matter what we are not losing this. That is also a powerful statement.

Oh I agree, they should have been given an extra 3 overs with the mandate to play t20 style, amass an extra 30 runs and get Ballance his 150.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 3:19 pmHow does that declaration help in getting a result when Zimbabwe were still trailing? They need to get those remaining runs anyways in their 2 nd innings. They could have literally tried to hit every ball and got out, I'm still ok with that, but how does the declaration help?

That is not the mentality of a winner in life.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 3:28 pmCome on Guys, for a team which rarely gets to play tests, and is half depleted it is a no brainer that a draw or a drawn series is much better than fighting and losing.

There is definite sense in this point. Agree about making a match out of it etc. But you could also go hammer and tongs instead of declaring. This message could have been sent to the middle, especially with just one wicket left. It is just a moral high ground of we decided our own fate.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 3:19 pmHow does that declaration help in getting a result when Zimbabwe were still trailing? In any case, no way as stupid a decision as that Babar Azam declaration vs NZ recently with no hopes of winning and every risk of NZ chasing it down.

Also by declaring behind we were inviting a sporting declaration from the Wi which they didn't give us. A standard offering when there isn't enough time to get a result. We have up a little safety to increase the chance of a win from a no-win situation.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 3:19 pmHow does that declaration help in getting a result when Zimbabwe were still trailing?
