If the UAE can beat a team with Taylor, Williams, Erving, Raza, Cremer, Hamilton, Blessing and Jarvis, Nepal or USA could take this team down. It’s very fine margins in a competition like this. Every run matters winning by 55 runs vs 50 runs could be the difference when NRR gets used.

Williams is in the form of his life. Ervine not doing too badly. Jarvis was more of a 4 day player.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 4:25 pmIf the UAE can beat a team with Taylor, Williams, Erving, Raza, Cremer, Hamilton, Blessing and Jarvis, Nepal or USA could take this team down. Think we can at least get to the final with this squad. Burl is also coming into form. We need him to be consistent and be our finisher.

You are correct, Zimbabwe could beat or be beaten by any team in this tournament.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 4:25 pmIf the UAE can beat a team with Taylor, Williams, Erving, Raza, Cremer, Hamilton, Blessing and Jarvis, Nepal or USA could take this team down. But, as I've pointed out many times, at the last version of this tournament Zimbabwe had very few players in actual proper form. Only BT & Raza fired more than once with the bat, all the others were pretty much out of form with only one 50+ score each.
If, the likes of Ervine, Williams, Burl & Raza can fire during this tournament, I see no reason why Zimbabwe can't qualify.

The bowlers will have a big say , if the seamers can't bowl consistently then there will be major problems.

Re: 2023 World Cup Qualifier discussion
At the time the decision was made to go to a 10 team WC, I think only 8 or 9 teams were competitive in the ODI format. I think the idea at that time was, Bangladesh and/or Zimbabwe would round out the top 10, and they weren't very competitive 10 years ago or so, when the decision was probably first tabled.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 9:10 amShame about the World Cup format though. The 2019 final being as epic as it was has meant everyone has forgotten how utterly boring and prolonged and shit the rest of the tournament was.
The qualifiers will undoubtedly be a more thrilling tournament than the main World Cup again!
Obviously now, there are 12-15 very decent ODI outfits and the WC needs to be at least 14 teams.

Just had a look at the 14-day weather forecast for Zimbabwe,
Looks pretty clear of rain, except for one day which is the 24th of June, which of course is the day Zimbabwe plays West Indies .....
A washout in that game wouldn't be the worst thing I reckon as it would likely leave us in the same position as last time out where we entered the Super 6s with 5-points and needing 2 wins to qualify.
Winning two games in the Super 6s would likely leave us on 9 points, and likely facing a NRR face off with the Windies ....
Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself here but it's certainly going to be interesting of rain plays a part again.

There is zero chance of a washout. It does not rain at all, let alone heavily, in Zimbabwe in winter so relax...jaybro wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 3:55 amJust had a look at the 14-day weather forecast for Zimbabwe,

Re: 2023 World Cup Qualifier discussion
Last time Zimbabwe actually exceeded expectations irrespective of what we make of the form of the players. They won the games that were supposed to be potentially decisive - against Afghanistan and Ireland and tied against Scotland which wasn't a bad thing eiter. They slipped up at the most unexpected point.
I don't want to sound pessimistic but they'll have to do this all over again and this time, not to slip up at the most unexpected time.

Guys any idea who are the commentators for the tournament. hopefully we have some good ones who know about lower ranked and associate nations and not find a way to discuss ashes during the tournament
Re: 2023 World Cup Qualifier discussion
Associate players are picking county cricket over the World Cup Qualifier. And why shouldn't they?

Good article explaining the county vs country situation for associate players . Respect for de leede has gone up by many times . Apparently he had clarified that he intends to participate in the qualifiers no matter what before signing the contract with Durham
