I CALLED IT!!! BANG ON!!

Post by CholeZimbo »

Might as well start the discussion early.

Can we gamble and bat first if we win the toss. A big score against the Windies might be hard to chase, especially against their attack and also scoreboard pressure. On the other hand, a slightly below par, say 270 is defendable, especially if we make reference to the low scores we have defended on many occasions against decent opposition. The opposition becomes slightly less aggressive, our bowlers and fielders suddenly become more disciplined and before you know it, they need 14 of the last over. Having said that, it could also be a good toss to lose if the Windies opt to bowl first, I back us defending against stronger opposition.

You were correct about everything, except calling them the Chevrons. I will never accept that name for the team.

You speak for all of us on that one.

It was a name given to a Zimbabwean select side that played in a South African domestic comp that had chevrons on their shirt. It was never intended for the national team. Plus it is a silly name, you can't name a team after an insignia. Our uniforms don't even have chevrons on them.

Its was more of the name given to the Zimbabwean select team that was playing in that competition during our lowest point when we were not playing test cricket. Some journalist just picked the name and it stuck.

The BBC are calling Zim "the Chevrons!"

Personally, I have no strong feelings on the matter, but the name has definitely stuck. I do find it amusing that everyone is so offended by it.
