The key thing for me is that when we do play Sri Lanka we will obviously try win but whatever happens we should at least make it a close game. NRR will be the thing that saves us if we do lose 2 games. So if we lose we better make sure it's a close game.

Our recent record against Sri Lanka isn't too bad as well so I'm not ruling ourselves out of that game just yet. The West Indies will be like Afghanistan in 2018. They will have a serious point to prove. There is absolutely no guarantee that Sri Lanka will roll them over too.

The Queens crowd will be equally hostile as well. We saw that in the T20 qualifiers last year. The Netherlands cracked under pressure.

A big win over Oman will almost get things sorted.

What is impressive though is that the team have an attitude right now of proceeding undefeated. They weren't cagey with the USA. They aren't fussing with calculations. They're just attacking each game and expecting to win. That's how the big boys get through tournaments.
Spot on! I also think this team is simply aiming to win everything and get through. They are definitely not thinking about NRRs as of now.

Lots of possibilities still:

If Scotland beat Netherlands and Windies (not improbable) and ZIM lost to Oman and SL (unlikely) Scotland could go through.

If Scotland beats ZIM and Netherlands (again not improbable), ZIM has to beat SL or rely on NRR.

It’s goin got be very interesting. I think only SL has a certain spot sealed up due to points and a very high NRR.

Zimbabwe now have one foot firmly in the door of the WC!

At best Windies can draw even with ZIM, but ZIM has a healthy NRR lead of about 1 run per over. Not a huge lead but significant nonetheless.

Scotland are next in line and are are slightly closer in NRR being 0.8 behind Zimbabwe and holding several advantages over Windies. The Scotland-ZIM clash will be critical.

Netherlands are also theoretically in the running but are virtually eliminated owing to their low NRR.

It ain’t over yet, as the 2018 tournament will remind, but the picture is getting clearer with each passing match.

Thinking these results will help Zimbabwe

SL beat WI

SL beat NED

NED beat Scotland

WI beat Scotland

Oman beat NED

That would see Zimbabwe qualify even without winning another game. But of course if they win one more game they’re through.

So to round out the 1st round of Super 6 matches, if WI beat Scotland & Sri Lanka beat Netherlands this will be the standings

6 - SL
6- Zim
2- Ned
2- Sco
2- WI
0- Oma

That means Zimbabwe can only miss out on qualification if they lose the rest of their games and then it would come down to NRR.

I’m no expert in NRR, but I’d assume Zimbabwe’s is ok without being uncatchable, like Sri Lanka’s who’d have to lose all 3 of their games to miss out on qualification.

That additional 1 point that Zimbabwe have now as compared to 2018 puts them in a far more comfortable position.

There is a very good possibility of going through even with 6 points but then again we would not want to go that route.

SL beating NL today and WI beating Scot tomorrow will further ease the things for Zimbabwe.

I'm looking at the Big Sunday to win and go through to the World Cup. That will be huge.
