2007 was not very good to be honest. At that time we didn't need a 16 team WC with 4 groups. It put a lot of emphasis on 2-3 games initially + the threat of rain, so it didn't make sense.
14 with 2 groups is just fine, like we had in 2003. It was my most liked format.

Re: 2023 World Cup Schedule release
I fully agree with you a World Cup should be no less than 16 nations, as in almost all other sports.Bulawayo Boy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 6:45 pmThis may have already been discussed, but does anyone else find it ridiculous that only 10 teams are competing at CWC23? Hardly even seems like a world cup at all. It's like cricket is going backwards. I always enjoyed those smaller teams like Kenya and the Netherlands get on over on the big guns.
Having less nations gives the impression of a backyard sport where an elite manages it for their exclusive good..... (maybe it is just like that....)

The u19 format works really well , including the plate. Can’t we just have that?
I’m guessing the 14-team edition in 2027 will be two groups of 7.

I agree, these ‘super groups’ are purely a money making ploy for ICC to maximise the India games.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 8:04 amThe u19 format works really well , including the plate. Can’t we just have that?

Yes, 2027 is two groups of 7 teams followed by a Super 6 stage. It doesn't have Quarter Finals, which is the best part.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 8:04 amThe u19 format works really well , including the plate. Can’t we just have that?

Re: 2023 World Cup Schedule release
I don't think so. With a group of 7 in a major tournament you can be complacent in games. You go to the world cup for any other sport in the world. It's usually groups of 4 or 5 at most. In that way Brazil losing to say Nigeria in football is easily a bigger deal than say India losing to West Indies in a 7 team cricket wc group. Why is this qualifier event so exciting ? Any game you lose, it might end your chances once and for all.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 7:14 am2007 was not very good to be honest. At that time we didn't need a 16 team WC with 4 groups. We all agree, but it’s all about India being guaranteed as many matches as possible. Such is cricket im afraid…Crastle_cog wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 11:47 amI don't think so. Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).
