Neither is ball tampering and complaining about sledging when said team is the worst at sledging. Also the Bairstow/Marnus situation is not the same, Marnus was batting out of his crease and hence that situation was more of a mankad-like thing. Bairstow had returned to his crease before leaving.

I'm not going to even get into the Bairstow dismissal but I cannot believe all these Aussies comıng out saying the Starc catch was fair. He literally pushed the ball along the ground. Fingers not under the ball, ball pushed along the ground. How can it possibly be a fair catch? The ball is not supposed to touch the ground. That is what makes a catch a catch. I feel like I'm living in a cuckoo clock where people are saying black is white and white is black. And you say he didn't gain an advantage from the ball touching the ground. He was sliding on his knees and literally had to use the ball to balance himself. If that's not gaining an advantage I don't know what is. McGrath coming out saying it was a disgrace and the umpires are biased in favour of England. I see he hasn't changed much. Once a cunt, always a cunt.
Sure he used the ball to brace his his fall/ slide which is why the catch was disallowed and I have no problem with that because that’s the rules.
It seems as though the English like to pull the rule book out when it suits them, but when it doesn’t they cry foul for ‘the spirit of the game’. It really is laughable that a certain section of d blush fans & media are getting so upset about the Aussies not letting poor little Jonny off the hook.
Aussies live rent free in their heads
I think Bairstow was daft for wandering out of his crease, but it was a cheap shot to run him out like that. I know the Australian media has been saying Bairstow tried the same thing with Labuschagne and Warner, but that's very disingenuous as they were batting out of their crease and trying to gain an advantage. Bairstow was just being naive/dopey, and not trying to steal a quick run.
Headingley should be pretty interesting, if the Lords reaction is anything to go by. That crowd is going to be whipped up into a frenzy! I guess we all like a bit of drama, and the Australian cricket team we just love to hate.

Oh yes and us Aussies are the only ones ever caught for ball tampering, we are the only who sledge cry moreeugene wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:15 pmNeither is ball tampering and complaining about sledging when said team is the worst at sledging. It’s actually pathetic listening to the excuses, “Marnus was out of his crease but Jonny just wondered out afterwards” clutching at straws.
There’s so many examples of this English team and their coach doing very similar things, yet it’s only the Australians who have gone against the spirit of the game

So it wasn’t disingenuous when Bairstow tried to get Marnus & Warner out in the same way because they were batting out of their crease?
Was it disingenuous when England ran out De Grandhomme last year ?
What about when Foakes held the ball and waited for Balbirnie to lose Ballance then stump him?
Or when Baz ran out both Murali & Mpofu after they went to celebrate milestones with their team mates?
Or when Broad nicked to first slip off Agar and refused to walk, then made the comment “people don’t remember that stuff, they only remember who won the game”.
Please, the English and their coach are just as bad as the next mob, don’t try and take the high road. It’s sport, you play to win and play within the rules.
It’s actually pathetic that after winning the toss, having the best of the conditions and playing against 10 men for more than half the test match that England are saying the Aussies only won because they didn’t play within the spirit of the game

Warner & Labuschagne: trying to gain an advantage by batting outside their crease. Surely even you can understand stumping someone here is totally different to a batsmen thinking it's the end of the over.jaybro wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:57 pmThe state of thisandrewn9 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:46 pm

De Grandhomne: starts to set off for a run for some unfathomable reason.
Foakes: stumping someone falling over playing a shot is completely normal and commonplace.
Baz: the Mpofu run out was very sneaky and not on. Will have to check out the Murali one but I suspect that was also not on.
I can't believe an Australian has the nerve to moan about Broad not walking Pot, kettle, black.
I never said Australia won because of the Bairstow stumping. You won a close game because you have lots of very good players.
I think Australia always has an excellent cricket team, but over the years, what with all the sledging, bullying, gamesmanship, arrogance and sandpaper incident, you haven't endeared yourself to other cricket fans around the world.
And I know the English media has had a one way street response to this, but if you think the Australian media isn't every bit as myopic, you are deluding yourself.
Re: Ashes 2023
You are clutching at straws mate, and your interpretations of those incidents are very much English biased.andrewn9 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 11:33 pm

Foakes held the ball for an eternity trying to catch Balbirnie out, Carey caught the ball and threw it straight away.
The argument that Marnus & Warner were trying to gain an advantage but Jonny was just dozy so it's against the spirit of the game is laughable and school yard stuff. So Australia should let Jonny off because he wasn't paying attention? C'mon, surely that sounds pathetic even to an Englishmen?
As for the Broad incident, I don't blame him because 'you to play to win' it's not his fault the umpire was blind, and if you're not a walker you're not a walker. But to hit the ball and not walk, that is against the spirit of the game, so if you want to roll out the spirit of the game argument crap, it's relevant point.
You can't decide to play in the spirit when it suits you but then ignore it when you've gotten away with one.
Again all this crap about sledging, gamesmanship, arrogance and ball tampering like Australia are the only ones who do it laughable. Are the English really that far up their arses that they think they don't do the same?andrewn9 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 11:33 pmI never said Australia won because of the Bairstow stumping. Was England using specialist fieldsman (ie Trevor Penny, Gary Pratt etc) in the 2005 Ashes not gamesmanship?
Was Jimmy Anderson not sledging George Bailey at the Gabba in 2013?
And the whole ball tampering thing is the biggest joke, England won the 2005 Ashes from using the mints on the ball to make it reverse swing and have admitted as much. So are we really taking the high road?
I have zero care about any of that stuff, the idea to use specialist fieldsman was a brilliant idea, and well within the rules. Was it in the spirit of the game? Well I guess the English decide what is or what isn't in the spirit so you can answer that.
I admit using sandpaper is worse than mints, but it's still a foreign object being brought onto the field and applied to the ball to change the state of the ball and gain an advantage. Is that within the spirit of the game I ask?
Sledging has been around for ever, Australia are not the only ones who sledge. Again, are they school kids or professional sportsman? You're in the battle playing for the flag, if you get upset over a few words then you probably don't belong there.
Arrogance comes with winning, and yes Australian Test teams over the years have been arrogant, but so are teams that win consistently just like India who now play with arrogance as well. I'd also suggest this English team are arrogant with their new found confidence from 'Baz-Ball'. They thought they'd win this series, or at least didn't think they'd be the first English team to lose a home series v Australia since the turn of the century.
But with a history making series loss on the cards for England, all due to their beloved 'Baz-Ball' tactics the pressure is on because they know it's going to be a media shit-storm when they lose and the narrative around their tactics will change from being 'Brave and exciting' to 'brash and reckless'.
The pressure is on and England are desperate, and clutching for the 'spirit of the game' is a sign of desperation.

Not walking, rightly or wrongly, is just part of the game now, and has been for decades. Running people out because they think it's dead ball at the end of the over is a new and peculiarly Australian tactic, so kudos to you guys on that for bringing a whole new element to the game!

Again you are picking and choosing what suits your agenda. You are trying to say that Australia whilst not breaking any rules have contradicted the spirit of the game and therefore should be ashamed. But England who have actually broken a rule, or allowed the umpire to let them break it are not breaching the spirit of the game and therefore it's fair play and they continue to be the bastions of the integrity of the sport?
The fact you can't even admit to England breaching the 'spirit of the game' shows you are in fact the deluded one

England can’t say anything about the spirit of the game when they haven’t played us for 20 years all because Uncle Bob fancied a couple more farms lol.
