Good squad. Very good squad.
Perhaps I would have liked to see Grant Flower in the side, but if he's not feeling up to international cricket, well fair play to him for coming back and giving Zimbabwean Cricket another shot.
The inclusion of Ryan Butterworth is a refreshing change it must be said. I think what this squad shows is that players are beginning to be picked for their good performances domestically. Keegan Meth and Butterworth are two good examples of that.
Good to see that Chibahba has been given another crack of the whip. He's certainly got a lot of talent with the bat, i really do rate him. He's an explosive player when set, and i think he could really make good use of the power play overs.
Why Keith Dabengwa is anywhere near the squad is beyond me. I'm going to go back to what ZIMDOGGY said on another post. Does he have relations who could influence the selectors. I mean he's not warranted a place internationally, and in all honesty i don't think he ever has...
I'm really looking forward to the series. Perhaps Greg Lamb could have been selected...
ZIm Squad for Bangladesh Tour
Re: ZIm Squad for Bangladesh Tour
With Bangladeshi batting order having so many lefties, I am surprised selectors have not picked another offie besides Utseya. Lamb prolly would have been a better addition instead of Dabengwa.maehara wrote:http://supersport.com/cricket/internati ... h_ODI_tour
Elton Chigumbura (captain), Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Hamilton Masakadza, Shingi Masakadza, Sean Williams, Chamu Chibhabha, Raymond Price, Ryan Butterworth, Craig Ervine, Prosper Utseya, Keith Dabengwa, Chris Mpofu, Keegan Meth.
No Flower, Nicolson or Rainsford.
As I said before, Meth will most likely be slaughtered on the slow pitches of Bangladesh.
Re: ZIm Squad for Bangladesh Tour
We are thinking it is an error. Remember that Brendan Taylor was left out of the South Africa ODI series squad by accident when it wad first announced. These press releases can never be trusted.

Re: ZIm Squad for Bangladesh Tour
Welcome back, Legend! That gives the team a whole new outlook, and he is sure to drive confidence of the team to a whole new level. If we have not found a stable pace battery by now (and we have not), we must have focused on the multi-pronged spin attack from the world cup point of view.
If this squad means we have "dropped" Lamb, it may not be a good idea, especially from the point of view that BD has a lot of left handers, as mentioned by Eshen. He may be a woeful batter in ODIs, but gives you 10 tight overs. He could have batted at 9 / 10, as he did with Eagles in the Stanbic series.
Regarding Meth, he might not get a game there, and if he does get one, he would most probably do reasonably well. He looks like he is one of those "street smart cricketers" who has the ability to adjust to the conditions.

Re: ZIm Squad for Bangladesh Tour
Greg Lamb deserves to be selected ahead of Dabengwa. When does Dabengwa ever bowl more than 4 overs in a game and bat higher than eight. Dabengwa isn't a batter, bowler, or an all-rounder. What role does he fill in the team? At least Lamb can score a few runs and play an anchor type of innings with the bat, and he is a very effective bowler in the right conditions.

Re: ZIm Squad for Bangladesh Tour
Aliatair Campbell has made some fantastic decisions in the past year, but one must question some of his selections. He persisted with Matskinyeri...that failed !
He's also persisted with Dabengwa....that has also failed. So why the hell is he in ?? In arrogant and just plain stupid.

Re: ZIm Squad for Bangladesh Tour
The starting XI should now look like this, since Williams is no longer available for the tour:
1. B.Taylor
2. H.Mazakadza
3. T.Taibu (Wkt)
4. C.Ervine
5. C.Chibahba
6. R.Butterworth
7. E.Chigumbura
8. K.Meth
9. P.Utsea
10. R.Price
11. S.Mazakadza
12th man: Graeme Cremer-I've only left him out because of his poor form in South Africa. Utsea did a very good job of keeping it tight, and Ray Price will do the same with the added fact that he'll pick up wickets too. Cremer was unlcuky to miss out, but I've tried to stick to our strengths.

Re: ZIm Squad for Bangladesh Tour
Well looking forward to the world cup, I can only assume we'll mix and match the line-up and order. So that means Mutizwa and Vusi are now earmarked as our Test specialists. I'm ok with that, especially given that Foster has been struggling for form a bit. Having said that and bearing in mind that some positions in the order haven't been nailed down - and that we're going to the subcontinent - Foster needed to be in the squad at least.
Your line-up sloan is where most of us are at, except in a few positions. Cremer is now integral to our side especially in tandem with Price and Utseya. The question becomes: do we play all 3 or not? If we go for Masakdza Jnr (a definite for me) then Meth loses out - unless we dilute our spin attack. However, we still have a few part-timers with the ball, especially Taylor. But overall good squad.sloandog wrote:The starting XI should now look like this, since Williams is no longer available for the tour:

i recon if butterworth can continue his t20 form in the powerplays he allows that lower hitting alongwith meth, butterworth can also bowl 5 to 8 overs of his mediums skidding onto the bat as well as a good fielder, he needs to be given more than 1 chance because I rated the kid fora while and he proved it in the t20.chibahba needs to make himself a established player now, yes he looks the good and scored runs against soouthafrica in t20 but hes playing fora starting role in the world cup and with some big scores could push williams out of the way . im so pissed off that dabengwa has been picked again ! what for the blokes rubbish , he must have connections . glad to see mpofu has been kept i rate him highly he just needs confidence and a bit of fire in his belly but i believe masakadza jr muts be persisted with he shows so much talent and can also hit a six easily down the order.meth must take the new ball because he can shape it both ways and he can slo slog a quick 20 to 35 runs in a few bowls.overall we must beat bangladesh as i feel we are a better team certainly batting just need to tie them up with spin and use our middle order smartly and put a price on our wickets . I BEG NOT TO PLAY DABENGWA FOR ONE GAME JUST LET HIM CARRY THE DRINKS , ONLY THING HE IS GOOD AT !! cumon boys
