In India we might have the biggest market in cricket but there is something you guys need to know. Throughout the board across most gen-z individuals, the craze for cricket is at it's all time low. Our newer generation is much more interested in other sports than the previous generations were and it's being reflected. Why wouldn't you when it's just repeatative. Every year play against Australia and England and call it a day. It gets really boring after a certain point. I don't even remember the last time I saw an ICT game live lol. Ofc it varies from region to region. My experience in Bengal will differ from another guy's experience in say Delhi but the overall consensus is that the interest is on a decline. Don't get me wrong, it won't be dying anytime soon but the gradual shift of interest as most of Gen Z reaches the 30 year mark and form the main market will be quite noticeable. Even for the normal Indian public , most of the people won't be able to name half of the 15 man squads there at the wc except for India itself. And I'm saying that for the people who'd be watching the games from the stadium.
In the whole world, in every sport, Gen Z is less attracted to sport than previous generations.
In the US the number of players in ALL 4 major sports (baseball, football, basketball, hockey) is relentlessly diminishing. Not only: even in soccer, a growing sport in US, players are in continuous decline.
Nonetheless all stadium attendance is growing (baseball, soccer, football) or levelled (basketball and hockey which are limited by the size of arenas which cannot host more than 20.000 people).
In rugby world cup stadiums are sold out for matches with Fiji, Georgia, Samoa, etc.

So Gen Z doesn't explain the empty stands of yesterday.
Raising 30-40.000 people in the stands should be a no brainer in subcontinent.
For indian organizers it is (so far) beyond their skills.

Tbf there were 47,000 people in attendance yesterday which I believe is the highest gate ever for an opening match of a world cup.

It looked small because of the absolutely ridiculous size of that stadium. But thats still an excellent attendance for a neutral match.

Genuine question. Is curran over rated? I hardly ever see him come off with the bat
Even if you look at his numbers overall. I'm not saying he isn't good but I don't believe the hype around him. To be fair I don't watch England that much, maybe he delivers in clutch moments.
I think he won them the T20 World Cup couple years ago.

Didn’t rate him at all originally but he’s proven to be a very handy bowler and at times a batter down the order.

Yeah I was gonna say by the 2nd innings there were enough people to fill most other international stadiums. By my guesstimate 20-25K. But looks like 47 was the official number.

NED have bowled PAK out for 286. One would think that’s enough runs on the board. Let’s see how much fight they can put up with the bat.

I presume you mean 4.700 not 47.000, right?

Stadium capacity is 100.000. If it were 47.000 it means that half stadium was filled......

Unfortunately that was nowhere, the stadium was miserably deserted in every section.

By the way, todays Pak vs NL match doesn't look better: another almost all empty stadium.

Note that tomorrow there's BAN vs AFG. not a marquee match. Given the trend we can expect an attendance in terms of hundreds rather than thousands.

The stadium capacity is 132,000.

47,000 were officially in attendance during the second innings.

I’m not arguing I’m just telling you the official line.

As for today it is a 55,000 capacity stadium. I would guess there is about 10,000 in currently. It has filled up significantly compared to this morning.

So they definetely have problems with either math or visual.
The capacity is reported on wikipedia at 130.000, quoting an article .... which reads 110.000, and the record registered attendance (IPL final) of 100.000!

"Official" reporting of 47.000 attendance for yesterday's match, i.e. 1/3 of the "official" capacity is something which hurts the naked eye (let alone the math).

Everyone has watched yesterday's match: 47.000 people did not exist.

Finally I wonder what is organizers calculation for todays match: anyone can see the pervasive empty stands, everywhere.

I've developed such an aversion to any "official" statement from any Authority whatsoever. They all talk shit 90% of the time. They think we're stupid.
