So the additions to our 3-2 defeat to namibia is Williams blessing and masakadza.
Sure it strengthens squad but ervine has to be phased out at some stage. Or maybe relinquishing of the captaincy will free him up. I don't know...He is capable of being a free flowing batsman. Seen it a few times. Twenty Twenty not his preferred format.

I think they picked Maru as the reserve keeper over K-long. Only way it makes sense

I would have picked Chivanga over Mumba but I guess Mumba fits Evans' profile more. He can smack them

Ervine hasn’t exactly set the world alight in this format, agreed. But truth is there is no other better option waiting in the wings at this moment. The only alternatives are guys who have repeatedly failed or guys who are unproven and inexperienced. These qualifiers are crucial, we are all assuming they will be easy but if we miss out it will be an absolute disaster and undoubtedly Houghton would lose his job and there would be big recriminations. So you have to pick the senior guys (Ervine) over any of the alternative unproven guys.

Ervine’s t20 stats in recent times have been poor and I’ve criticised him but he’s still an incredibly classy, experienced player and if you had to pick a guy to bat for your life you’d still pick him over say Shumba, Bennett or anyone else in the system tbh.

I know that David Houghton really rates Kaia. So much so that he considers him the most technically correct batsman in country listening to recent podcast.
Most technically correct does not always bring big runs in 20/20 matches unless you are Kane Williamson. You need a bit of unorthodox about ya.

That being said Kaia had impressed me in recent west indies series and the century against Bangladesh last year. He has to start pushing on a bit now.

Got what he needed and decided to let the young lads have a chance there I think

Forget 50 year old BT, Knackerville and Raza, Willo is our best batter ever. He’ll sneak in under the radar with some sterling performances and get us to the World Cup. Would bet my house on that.

I'm mighty Happy Williams is back. Has a nice run/Strike rate of over 125 at 20/20 level and is our best multi format player.

Ya Williams is an amazing batsman. Those are big crazy boots to fill quite shortly. I reckon he's close to hanging them up, maybe a year at most.
