Except for tests in South Africa as they typically schedule them to begin on a Tuesday morning when everyone is at work and school.

I guess I'm just old and a product of the 1990s, but cricket is hard to get excited about these days as there is just so much pointless T20.

All of these T20 leagues won't retain their popularity, the tide will turn at some point.
There is another advantage from the T20 perspective.

T20 are reflecting more the amateur cricketer.
Times have changed.
People have less and less spare time and more and more attractions. Playing cricket was once in rural areas or in parts of the empire one of few things to do in spare time.
Now playing cricket competes against hundereds of alternatives.
3 hours for a sport match can be acceptable for amateurs and for parents escorting children to junior matches. A whole day is instead pretty hard to consistently manage.
So cricketers will play more and more T20s, less and less 50 overs.
So amateurs (and kids) will be more bound to follow heros playing the same kind of cricket they do.
