There are a few players who did reasonably well when thrown in at deep end. I remember Chigumburas 77 against Australia containing Brett lee Gillespie and mcgrath in 2004 and also Brendon taylors 2 x 50s against the same side in series. They were the few bright spots however.

So it can be done. Ireland are slightly better than Holland who Bennett already has a 50 against in the warm up match. You can never be sure who will make it however

I'm sick of everything being linked to world cups. There was a time when we only had ODI world Cup once every 4 years and that was that. Every series had it's own relevance and importance. Let's just go about it that way.

I reckon we will see Mufadza in the Ireland series, probably in the fifty over stuff. Wouldn't be able to see that he doesn't deserve it after topping the wickets table nearly every season.

Ya for sure. I’m not sure he’s better than Wellington but he absolutely deserves a chance. He cant do anything more at domestic level

Had a good think about the Ireland series and who I'd like to see in the one day squad, I came up with this:

Starting 11
Kaia
Gumbie (wk)
Ervine (C)
Williams
Raza
Munyonga
Burl
Mavuta
Jongwe
Ngarava
Muzarabani

Bench
Welch
Chivanga
Mufudza
Shumba

Some might laugh about the Jongwe selection considering he hasn't done much in one day matches but we can't just play 2 pacers, without Evans we would be relying on Larry and he just isn't up to standard anymore. I'd also like to see Chivanga getting another chance. It's either that or a Mumba/Musekiwa selection and we all know they just aren't national bowlers or yet at least.

Controversially putting Welch on the bench, he will come good but I'd like to see more of the Kaia Gumbie partnership.

Shumba and munyonga both deserve a shot at the squad with recent form, same with Mufudza.

Notable omissions for me were Madhevere, who just needs a break from the national team I think, it will do him good, Larry as mentioned above. Welly because I think Mavuta is better suited I the one day games and Mufudza deserves a go.

Most controversial though (saying that like anybody gives a shit what I think ) is the omission of Madande. Now I have just lost faith in him as a keeper, I know he is a better batting option but his glove work is just embarrassing for a national side, he really needs a lot of work and it's such as shame because he is a really good bat.

K-long is also unlucky to miss out but I just didn't have space for another bat.

If Williams doesn't play we're likely to get thrashed

Old school thinking but I’d rather have a keeper who can keep than a batter who can’t. If he’s rock solid the byes he’ll save will be the same as him making those runs basically.

Gumbie has earned his chance I feel. Hasn't done too much wrong.
Plus he is opener so can add an extra batsman.
