I like how Madande is always looking to score. Is one of the few guys who can find the gaps and knock it around for 10 overs. Helps that he is very quick as well.

But surely without Raza , Williams and Ervine you don't play a batsman short . What kind of logic is that ?secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:47 amBut then whats the alternative? If you put these guys up the order and they have a bad day, you are really in trouble then with nobody to save the innings. It's why the Raza opening experiment was great on paper but in reality if he got a first baller or something we'd be totally in the shit.jaybro wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:45 amShould have just played then higher up the order and saved themselves the pressure of rebuilding the innings.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:42 amWell our last hope is yet another Burl-Clive rebuild job.
Surely a batsman would play better coming in at No.3 knowing you’ve got guys coming in after you who can do the job if you fail.
Now they’ve got the pressure of knowing if they get out then it’s up to the bowlers. I just don’t get the logic of hiding guys done the order in a t20 game.
Unfortunately we have to pick conservative lineups because we are bereft of quality and depth. It's the reality.

The alternative is you play your best players up top and back them to make a score, that’s t20 cricket is played by the majority.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:47 am

Zim has always had this idea that it’s better to hide good players down the order and sacrifice younger less capable ones up top.

Ya but I think thats a slightly different conversation to the one we were having about batting order.mnelson68 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:51 amBut surely without Raza , Williams and Ervine you don't play a batsman short . In this new era Burl will have to be more than just a finisher. Not sure he has that ability but we will find out over the next year or so. There is no doubt that he is the main man after the old blokes head off into the sunset.

I also think for the first time in probably forever, there is a quite significant amount of player power. If Raza objects to a decision, then what happens? How about Ervine and Williams threatening to retire? These three have unreal power. I also think a lot of the young black guys like Dave too. Despite results the players love him. They will remember the dark days of Rajput where most of the squad actively despised the guy and weren't even on speaking terms by the end of his tenure.
We have happy players in the ZC system for the first time in 20 years - I doubt the board wants to rock the boat.

I agree with your comments was just replying to the conservative line up call you made. There are options but they don't take them.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:52 amYa but I think thats a slightly different conversation to the one we were having about batting order.mnelson68 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:51 amBut surely without Raza , Williams and Ervine you don't play a batsman short . Well all international batters should be doing that surely?
What he lacks is the ability to change gear, as do most of our players.
