Looks like status is going be taken away from the Zimbabwe gamed. Cricket archive have removed them. They were the first to take away the South Africa matches.

Such a notch job by the ICC.
Firstly, the games should never have been given ODI status.

Secondly,
Since they were, they should not have revoked that mid tournament, as it was SA and ZIMs decision to send a flop team and development team respectively.

Maybe it was a tournament not worth having to begin with.
It would have maybe made more sense for the associates to play off for the chance to play SA for the African title.

I disagree. I think it’s a real shame it’s turned into the mess and farce that it has. I think there would be real value in having this sort of tournament, done properly, with full status. People have long talked about an ‘African Cup’ along the lines of the Asia Cup. Would be great. I’m not expecting SA to send the full Proteas, obviously, but they really could have and should send a decent pro squad. Not this team of university rejects which made a mockery of the whole competition.

A proper Africa Cup, or via this African Games, could be great for development on the continent. I think we are seeing huge growth in African cricket recently - there’s so much opportunity to do something. SA and indeed Zim have a role to play.


Also I really don’t get this status bollocks anyway. The Asian Games were held last year in China and India/Pak etc sent reserve squads but their games retained full T20I status even as the likes of Mongolia and Cambodia were playing.

There is an Africa cup already, it’s just Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe refuse to join it because of the status bollocks.
