And as much as I'm a huge Nick fan, and he will come good, you can't pick a player who's scored a grand total of 94 runs in his past 30 matches.

He scored 39, 175, 44, 49, 0, 8, 1, and 94 in his last matches from what I can see, averaging 50 in his last 8 games. Last game he was excellent against an all Zim attack.
Not that shit :lol: I also thought it was a lot worse than that.

Might be wrong, was a quick look.

Plus he's the best T20 opener we've got, hands down by a country mile and we havent played T20 for a while. Had a mediocre international start of course, but no worse than all the others, not denying that.
Unfortunately you have to do well in red ball to make the T20 trials, you have to do well in the T20 to make the red ball trials.
If he can't make those regionals someone there has it in for him. He'll have to wait another year whilst the usual suspects fail consistently and we hope no-one makes 17 off 15 to cement the opening T20 slot.
Had they played him in all games we'd have a decent opener by now, not some guy under extreme duress wondering what he's doing here.

Welch is much better option than Gumbie and ervine as an opening batsman imo.

Spot on Googly , they are a joke and continue to go down the same road and will get the same result. Welch should be one of the t20 openers , the fact that they put players who are not suited to the t20 format in these squads tells me that nothing will change moving forward.

No sign of Brad Evans either , Akram and Nyauchi picked in front of him in t20 cricket is yet another joke.

Evans was bowling off half a run-up for Rangers when I was watching him the other day. He was actually bowling well from that length but clearly not fit and right yet. His injury was a very bad one.

I don't think that's correct.

Welch's last 10 matches at franchise level are;
0, 21, 40, 11, 8 (all T20)
10 & 5, 16 & 6, 34 & 6, 37 & 14*, 40 & 3. (all First Class).

In the NPL so far he has scored;
0, 8, 1, 94

Averaged 17 from 8 matches in the Logan Cup and 16 from 6 matches in the T20.

Until that 94 earlier this week it's a very long time since he scored a 50 let alone 100. It really has been wretched form, extending back to the Namibia trip.

He will come good, I don't disagree with you about him being a cut above - class is permanent, etc. But it wouldn't look good to select him at the moment.

As I say, he would have more of a chance if he was named Nick Kaia.

I went onto the app, went to his profile and looked at his last 8 or 9 games. That app is the best thing ZC have done for a ling time!
That's more or less what I pulled out, and in that order, I didnt cherry pick his better innings. There were a few u25, club and regional games in there.
Ya the franchise stuff was truly diabolical, but there were at least 4 really poor LBW decisions with much shouting and breaking of stuff that got him into a pressure filled rut and on the wrong side of the umpires. I'm not sure how he fixes that and it matters here. They'll kill your career. I guess don't wear pads to reduce the surface area and don't get hit from the waist down on any line. Bat on leg stump?
In fact I've just written the last ones down instead of relying on trying to look and memorize 94, 1, 8, 0, 49, 39, 175, 20, 39, 12, 44, 14, 0, 21.

When I say poor decisions I don't mean marginal, I mean to onlookers it looked like they'd been instructed to get him out. That's how bad some of them were. Anyway let's see what the new season brings. He's gone back to his old set up with an old school late backlift and choked down grip I I see, which is how he used to bat as a kid. It's pretty unique. That's a long slow circle back to your roots. I've never seen a batsman tinker more with a set up than he does. He needs to clear his head.

Evans has now pulled or torn a pectoral muscle, nothing to do with his leg.

Of those guys the two stand out ones are Joylord and Milton. I just don't think they're suited to T20.
I'm almost guaranteeing Milton is going to get a shot up the order. He struggles to go at better than a run a ball. He's a good player and one of my favorites but he's currently not a T20 opener.

One of the issues here is they get to play on such shit tracks that they can rarely hit thru the line. We'd have done well in America actually. Slightly better than run a ball gets you to a defendable total here.
