Granted he's probably not got the shot selection of a Nick Welch or a Madhevere, but he's solid enough.
Matty Welch is another bloke who MUST be on the selectors radar. He scored hundreds in this seasons domestic matches and looked very accomplished. I just hope he sticks with it because we have a genuine gap at the top of the order which needs filling, urgently.

He’s never going to be even half considered unless he commits. Everyone else is playing NPL or club cricket. Even Myers, as much as he is described as being ‘parachuted in’, flew back during his Uni holidays to play a few games. Nick Welch is playing every week in club cricket.
Curran’s interest appears to be skin-deep and he hasn’t scored enormous runs either.

Matt welch at least has a good domestic season under his belt. Two justified arguments and fair. EFF all to do with colour

There are such hidden costs to punting some players ad nauseum. Firstly you're not getting anywhere fast as a country and secondly you're destroying a better player's opportunities. Thirdly add up the money and time you've spent backing the wrong horse. It sometimes adds up to a few hundred grand over the years. Nobody is held to account for that, in fact they usually get promotions 
They'd literally save huge money and actually get somewhere by getting an unbiased expert in to assess and say- focus on this guy, that one not so much. As we've seen, domestic runs are not the only answer in our small pool of resources. Someone has to be able to say this guy can play up, and we don't seem to have that expertise here.
Curran does have a decent technique, but I do think he's limited, and hasn't made much of an impact. He's a Gumbie type player, except Gumbie is just excellent in my book. He'd have to come here and do the hard yards. Overlord is just going from strength to strength. I'm a huge fan.
If you want to back a young opener with a great technique and real flair and a great record for a 20 year old why look further than Matt Welch? He's a light year ahead of Kamwemba, Patel, Bawa et al. Averaged 46 opening at age 20, and gave his wicket away most times, not many guys actually got him out. No middle order cheap runs, comes in when the ball is new and does the hard yards. His first game was the telling, came in as a reserve and opened? You put a reserve in down the order if you think he's shit. By opening with him you're saying you know he's good but there are other factors in play.
I don't think there's a County in England that wouldn't sign him after one look, and they'd absolutely be making sure he got the best rehab available, yet he can't make the top 45 in Zim and they probably don't even know if he's alive or dead. It's just weird, the system is broken, yet they'll send guys for amateur rehab to Bulawayo Boot Camp

I agree. I'm talking purely from a technique point of view. I've watched him live at Northants when he scored 83 and he looked really accomplished. But he does need to get himself over here and put the yards in

Gumbie has been on first class scene since 2013 and he is still only 28. He should go from strength to strength. Compton I think did wonders for him being his opening partner
