2024/25 franchise teams

Post by Googly »

I think this needs it's own thread. I believe they're going to allocate players to teams to supposedly try and make it fairer.
Also will be interesting who "they" put in what team.
Who are "they?"
Is this Mutendira showing us his skills again?

I'm not sure why they're still calling it franchise cricket?
You can't call it provincial cricket either because few people will come from those areas and we await to see where they're actually going to play the cricket.
Maybe Made Up Teams is a good name?

Apparently these are the new coaches-

Eagles- Erick Chauluka and Chamu Chibhabha
Tuskers- Walter Chawaguta and Njabulo Ncube
Rocks- Tendai Chisoro (head coach still to be named)
Rhinos- Adam Chifo and Christopher Mpofu
Mountaineers- Stephen Mangongo and Thabo Mboyi

I see we have players, presumably now ex players, who are suddenly coaches. I guess coaching certificates are optional extras these days.

And the managers and other support staff?
Are we going forwards or backwards?

I did hear that Dave Houghton might be Rocks coach. I'm not sure he'd be too happy with the traveling, he seems to be in Rajput territory- full salary and isn't around.

All these players have level 2/3 coaching license.

That's a little facetious, I don't hold too much store in them. It's about what the coach has to offer, but it is a fact that they dish them out here.

Disappointing that Brent never got a franchise.

I guess when they announce the teams there will be time for a practice or two before the season starts.
Let's hope everyone is fit and ready and have been practicing hard.

Why do they need to reallocate players to make it fairer? It is already pretty equal.

Last 5 Logan Cup Winners; Mountaineers, Eagles, Tuskers, Rocks, Mountaineers

Last 5 Pro50 Winners: Eagles, Mountaineers, Mountaineers, Rhinos, Eagles

Last 5 T20 Winners: (Durham), Eagles, Eagles, Tuskers, Tuskers

No one franchise has been overly dominating

That's just the word on the street. This time around it would account for the customary delay in announcing squads.

I'm hoping they're potentially re-allocating platers due to the high plater volume since the NPL. Lads like Banks, Schardendorf snr and maybe a few others from the Rangers squad have made it pretty difficult to ignore.
